Snakes of the Colorado Plateau |

|
|
Snakes often have a bad name with visitors to the Colorado Plateau. They are positive that the rattlers are out to get them and that gopher snakes are poisonous. Nothing could be farther from the truth. The only poisonous snake in this region is the rattlesnake and they are too busy surviving to bother with vengence against the human race. Just watch where you place your hands and feet and admire and respect these interesting and beautiful animals from a distance. They are NOT targets and are protected in all national park areas. Also, many states prohibit the capture of any reptile. |
