Painted Desert Inn Museum:
A National Historic Landmark
Imagine traveling the Mother Road, Route 66, through the high desert of Arizona's plateau country.  The year is 1932 and in mid-summer, the road is hot and dusty.
Seeming suspended at the edge of the world, the Stone Tree House offers an oasis to the traveler.  Inside there is a cool respite as well as a sweating glass of lemonade from the lunch counter.
One glimpse from the Rim and there is no doubt that this place deserves more than a brief stop and a sip of cold lemonade.  Take a journey through this National Historic Site and a journey through time.
