How2... VoiceSwitch 1.3.2 beta

Download

The VoiceSwitch is a neat stand alone Mic input for use in with the 'Record from soundcard' setting on some DSP's. Its also usefull if using SimpleCast to stream to the internet.

First you need to Download the VoiceSwitch and install it in a folder in your Program Files
This is a Stand Alone programand is not restricted to use with a single media player like WinAmp.

Once you have it installed on your PC open up the VoiceSwitch program

The setup of the switch is simply a case of choosing your soundcard option
To do this just click on ther Cogwheel icon

This will bring up a simple config window where you only need to choose your sound card in the drop menue
Then click Save

Now the easy part is over we get to the slightly more difficult part...Not realy.

In your Task Bar down by the clock) look for and double click on the Icon. this will launch your Master volume control.

Click the Options button and launch the Properties settings window

Select the Recording option
In the lower pane look for the option
Stereo Mixer or What You Hear or something similar (its usualy the first option in the list)
make sure this is checked and then click Ok This will then launch the Recording Control

Depending on your Sound Card select Stereo Mixer or What You Hear and make sure the slider is at full volume. You can now close the Recording Control

Next we need to configure your DSP to allow for the Mic to sound out over the music.

If you use the SAM Encoder DSP you need to select Record From Sound Card

In the Oddcast DSP you would choose Adv Rec

Now your PC will be broascasting any and all audio that goes through your soundcard, This includes PC Click's & Beep's any IM notificastion sounds or any other audio signals audible on your system. be very aware of this. If you need to do anything that requires the use of the soundcard switch back to normal mode before you do.
Now all you need to do is fine tune the levels in the Voice Switch so you have a BG music volume thats not overwhelming the Mic audio.
Now With a simple click on the Press To Talk PTT Button
You should now be able to open the Mic, automaticlly lower the music volume and talk on air over the Background music.

Clicking the Minimode button will reduce the switch to a slim space saving version of the Volume Switch. You can also lock it to be on top on your screen.

Issues Ive personaly found with the Voice Switch

1) On opening the switch the volume control for the Wave setting in the Master Volume resets at '0'.

Solution/Workaround
Be aware and ready for this when you open the program as it can lead to a slight panic when you start thinking your soundcard has died.

2) When using the PTT there is no fading of the music levels.

Solution/Workaround
When you talk, Lock the PTT button and use the Volume Slider on your casting player to lower the music volume under the Mic.

These are problems mentiond Ive found to occur on my system but you may not encouner them on your system. I consider this software to be still very usable and compared to other similar devices its pure gold as it works in a fashion which is OK by me.
As this software is Beta there is room for improvement and user input to make it better through development over time.
