Title: To Unite All Peoples Within Our Nation
Author: Shadowcat

I'd never thought I'd ever do this, but I did. A sequel to my post-apocalyptic "Pokemon" story, "To Protect the World From Devastation". I don't know if this is as good as the original and I debated heavily in my mind before writing this, as I feared creating a sequel might ruin the great story that I had with the original. I shared my ideas over e-mail with fellow "Pokemon" fanfic author, "Stormy" so if you do not like this, blame her! If you like this, credit her for encouraging me!

DISCLAIMERS/WARNINGS: This story has some spiritual/religious things in it. I am warning readers before they read the story for those of you who may *have major problems with Christianity* I am a Christian and I have put some of my beliefs into this story in some parts. I feared I might receive flames because of some of the spiritual content. I am WARNING you all ahead of time. Therefore no flames on this matter will be respected at all, since I WARNED YOU!!!

Additional notes: In my stories, James is James Rochester. I've read somewhere that "Rochester" is not his actual last name, but I like it! I got it from some fanfiction by Sforzie. Also, PLEASE RE-READ "TO PROTECT THE WORLD FROM DEVASTATION" BEFORE READING THIS STORY! I was going to include a summary, but it would have to be very long and it's probably just better to re-read the original story again as it's all kind of complicated.

"When Shadowcat is using lines of the TR motto for story titles, you know it's going to be strange!"

Chapter 1 - Mark a Name

Pale blue eyes stared at the dark gray stone as the chill wind blew, the last cold remnant of Winter before Spring. Her eyes were pale in the overcast morning light, paler than the deep royal blue that they normally were, from many days spent in devastated sorrow. The eyes of the young woman scanned the large flat stone. She was much too young to be so world-weary, but she knew she must hang on. Her eyes glanced up at the mansion looming up behind the stone, then back to the stone.

The list of names was long. Mondo had chiseled a few more names upon it since the last time she had visited. Her eyes fell to the last name: James Rochester.

"No! No! No! No!" Jessie screamed, and collapsed to her knees crying with her head in her hands. A spearow cried in the distance.

"Jessie! Jessie! Wake up! Please!" Oakely shouted, shaking Jessie awake in her bed; "It was just a dream! You're going to be obe okay now."

"I had...The Dream again;" Jessie wearily mumbled, crawling out from beneath her multicolored wool blanket.

"Which one? The one about the Survivalistas taking the old Rochester Estate or the one about the stone?"

"The stone."

Oakley put his arm on Jessie's shoulder and they sat on her bed; "We all have those we mourn. It's hard to go on after losing so many people who were so close to us."

"James was...;" Jessie whispered; "more than just my partner. There was something special about him. I guess I'm still grieving. His death is still a shock to me. I always thought we'd have each other. Do you understand what I mean?"

"I understand perfectly."

"So much for trying to take an afternoon nap."

Jessie and Oakley walked out into Headquarters courtyard. The Rocket Survivors had taken over what used to be Magenta City. This was the second move of their base. They had lived in the old Rochester Estate for a while, then in old Alizarin City, but both were destroyed by the other factions made up of the survivors of "The R". The Survivalistas and the Liberantes posed little threat to the Rocket Survivors now, their strength and their numbers dwindling. Many of them, in fact, had joined the Rocket Survivors. It was safe for Jessie, Oakley, and the other Rocket leaders to live in the same city as all the Rocket Survivors, something they had not done in Alizarin City.

The Rocket Survivors had the cure for "The R". This was all thanks to Jessie, who, with Oakley and others, stole it from a man named Xavier of another, peace-loving faction, The Remnant of the Saved. The Rocket Survivor's Headquarters building was an old office skyscraper. Jessie's bedroom was on the first floor, accessible through the lobby, which opened up to a large courtyard. She and Oakley walked over to the Memorial Stone that had been erected and chiseled to honor the memory of Team Rocket members who had fallen victim to "The R" and to those who died thereafterward in the battles to get the cure. A stone similar to this had been at the old Rochester Estate. Mondo and others had created another one shortly after the Rocket Survivors set up living in Magenta City.

"I remember those wretched early days;" Jessie mused; "back at the Estate. Almost every day Mondo would mark a name. The list is still long, but a name has not been added in a long time."

"You're responsible for it you know;" Oakley added; "If you hadn't told us about Xavier's and Ash's cure, we would still be dying. You could have mislead us and stayed with them you know."

Jessie stared at the stone. There were names upon it more recent than James' and all of people she had cared about, the most recent being of a young man named Timothy who had diedied in a battle with some Survivalistas and Liberantes in Alizarin City. Still, if she could bring just one person back, it would be James.

Chapter 2 - The Power of Life and Death

In the Old Days, the Head Scientists of Team Rocket had invented a terrible virus, which came to be called "The R". Its handlers had made a mistake, which caused it to be unleashed upon the world. It had killed most of the world's population of people and pokemon. The survivors of the world divided into three main factions, who were at war with each other in a race for the cure for "The R". The Survivalistas were an order made up of former Gym Leaders and Pokemon Trainers and swore vengeance upon the survivors of Team Rocket. The Liberantes were a group who wished only to cure the dwindling numbers of pokemon and felt that the time for mankind's extinction had come. The Rocket Survivors were the surviving members of Team Rocket (most of whom had not known at the time of "The R"'s creation that their Head Scientists were concocting a disease) who wanted to re-create the world under Team Rocket's old ideals. There were other survivors not a part of the warring factions, simple Barbarians, and a religious order, The Remnant of the Saved.

Jessie had become one of the four leaders of the Rocket Survivors, and was one of the two Chief Leaders along with Oakley. She had been responsible for the faction's acquirement of the cure for "The R", thus ending the great race. The Rocket Survivors administered the vaccine to all their members who had not yet contracted "The R" and survived, which created a natural immunity. Jessie had that immunity borne out of sickness. She had survived "The R", while her best friend and partner from the Old Days, James, had not. The Rocket Survivors also administered a strange cure concocted from a mixture of plants to their ill members.

The Rocket Survivors did not give the cure or the vaccine to anyone not among their ranks, for they were seeking to build a world after their way, a world without Truth and without real Love. Anyone who was willing to agree to that world and to join the Rocket Survivors got the cure. Those that did not, were left to perish. The Rocket Survivors wished to unite all the surviving peoples of the world within the Team Rocket nation.

The Survivalistas and the Liberantes still tried to war with the Rocket Survivors, but were in a clearly losing fight. Their numbers were dwindling to both the fact that children born to them rarely survived "The R" and the fact that some of those already within their numbers were falling ill. Also, many had left those factions to join the Rocket Survivors. Anyone who was captured attempting to sabotage or oppose the Rocket Survivors in any way was thrown into a vast prison underneath Magenta City.

This is the way in which Jessie lived, giving the cure to those who would join them and denying the cure to all others, keeping its secrets locked away. She, Oakley, and the two other leaders of the Rocket Survivors basically held the power of Life and Death in their hands.

Chapter 3 - Visitation

Jessie stood with Oakley at the Memorial Stone for a while before meeting with Meowth and dealing with some defectors of the Liberantes and a wandering family, who would be classified among the Barbarians. The day proved to be long, and Jessie was glad when she got the chance to retire to her quarters and go to bed.

Her dreams over the past several months had seldom been peaceful and Jessie suffered from insomnia often. She had seen a lot of terrible things due to "The R" and often dreamt about more of her friends dying from it. Most of her dreams revolved around her last days with James.

She knew that even though she had begun to move on with her life and the duties she had to do after losing him, she was still in mourning. Oakley had been offering Jessie his companionship a lot. Under normal circumstances, Jessie might be developing a romance with the handsome, brown haired, brown eyed young man, but she was still holding on to the memory of James. Jessie told herself that he was merely a friend, her Best Friend, but still a friend, but now, with the heartwrenching feelings that his death had brought on and was still bringing on, she was not so sure.

Jessie turned out the oil lamp that was sitting on the nightstand by her bedside and lay awake on the bed, staring up into the darkness.

Her room filled with light once more.

Groggy, Jessie looked at her lamp, to make sure she had not somehow forgotten to turn it off in her exhaustion. The lamp was out, its wick gently smoldering, but the room was filling with an ever-increasing light!

Then Jessie saw three glowing, ethereal figures before her! She rubbed her eyes to make sure she was awake an and not dreaming! Two of the figures had great white wings. The third figure stood between them and steadily took shape. He was transparent and wore a flowing white robe that glowed with an otherworldly light. His eyes were a striking emerald green and his hair that was whipping about his face as if blown by a wind was a pale lavender.

"James?!" Jessie asked, "Am I dreaming?!"

"Have no fear, Jessie, it is I;" the spirit spoke.

"James?" Jessie asked again; "You're...dead! You can't be real!"

"I am dead, but I am real;" James replied. He took Jessie's right hand in his own ghostly one; "I will explain."

"I came to you;" James began; "to bring you a message. These;" he motioned to the two other spirits in the bedroom; "are my Guardian Angels, my escorts from Heaven."

Jessie still couldn't quite believe what was going on; "So those Remnant people are right? There is a Heaven?"

"Yes;" said James; "I don't deserve it, but I went there. Shortly before I died, I remembered some things I had read in a Bible once, about sin and redemption and the Son of God. I chose to believe when I was dying from 'The R'. When you came to see me, I tried to tell you, but I was delirious. It was what I meant when I told you that I 'was going to be okay'. Do you remember?"

"Yes, James. You thought that Meowth was Growlie, and you held onto my hand as I watched you slip away. Oh, James! It was awful!" Jessie collapsed into a fit of sobbing.

"Don't cry, Jessie, I'm at peace. The Lord sent me here to give you a message. He sent me, because he knew that you would listen to me."

"When have I ever listened to you before?" Jessie joked with tears running down her face.

"You will now. Jessie, the Rocket Survivors are wrong. They cannot create the kind of world of which they dream. It will all collapse into chaos. The cure for 'The R' should be for everybody, else the world will die. Jessie, you know the cure. You must give it to those in need."

"But Oakley, and the others, what will they do to me if they find out? And the Survivalistas and the Liberantes! Must they also have the cure?"

"All must have the cure. Do not worry about what will become of you. Just you must give the world the cure, Jessie. The fate of the world is in your hands...."

James walked from Jessie's bedside toward the two angels that were standing at the other end of the room. All three began slowly to fade into nothingness.

"James! Wait! Don't leave me!" Jessie cried; "Please don't leave me again!"

Jessie's cries were unheeded as her old friend and his escorts disappeared into the darkness.

Chapter 4 - Mission

Jessie mulled over many thoughts and decisions in the next week. She began asking herself spiritual questions that she had never thought of before. For the first time in her life since she was a young child, she had even begun to pray. Jessie's mind was a tangle of confusion as she thought about what James had said to her. She even began to doubt that his visitation was real, thinking it was all a dream, until he appeared to her again for three nights!

Jessie informed Oakley that she had chosen to take a leave of absence for a while, claiming that she needed to get away from life for a while and back to nature. Leaving Oakley, Annie, and William in charge of the Rocket Survivors, Jessie got a Ponyta and set out on horseback across the woodlands, fields and deserts beyond Magenta City.

Before she, left, unbeknownst to them, she copied down the recipes for both the preventative vaccine and the cure for "The R" before her departure.

Jessie rode and camped, feeling the freedom of being in the wilds and gathering the plaplant materials needed to make "The R"'s cure. She almost felt like she was back in the Old Days, when she, James, and Meowth would follow that kid Ash around, trying to steal his Pikachu for The Boss. Those Old Days were long gone now. Jessie sighed as she remembered. Those were simple times, mainly carefree times.

Ash, Jessie regretted it now, was in the prison underneath Magenta City, put there after she lead Oakley, Dirk, and Meowth to raid the cabin in which he lived with a man named Xavier to steal the cure and vaccine that they had developed.

Brock was a fierce soldier with the Survivalistas, and had tried to kill Jessie when the Factions were still at war for the cure. The Survivalistas still battled against the Rocket Survivors on occasion; trying to overthrow them, and Jessie had battled with Brock then too in a few skirmishes. She had not seen him with any bands of Survivalistas trying to take Magenta City in a long time, however.

Misty, Ash had informed Jessie when she was staying at Xavier's cabin, before she betrayed them, was long dead from "The R". His Pikachu that Jessie and James had chased for so long had perished as well.

All these memories stung Jessie with bitter pain, as she knew she could never bring the old times back. What pained her the most was that James was dead. She took comfort now, after his miraculous visitations, in the knowledge that he was at perfect peace. Whenever he appeared to her, she knew, not only from his words, but also from an overwhelming peace that had filled her soul.

Jessie rode for two weeks, meeting many people along the way. She gave the cure to people whom she found sick, and the recipe for the vaccine to others. She found many scattered villages set up by Barbarians (called that so not so much because they were savage, but simply for the fact that they did not fit into any main Faction or band. Most were actually very civilized). She also found communities of The Remnant of the Saved. Jessie even met a few Survivalistas and Liberantes to whom she gave the recipes for the vaccine and cure. She even stayed in a small Barbarian village for a few days, mixing up batches of vaccine and cure with a former physician's family to take with her to give to people and pokemon on her journey.

As she traveled wild lands, Jessie used Wheezing, whom she had adopted from James after he died to weaken and capture wild pokemon, whom she vaccinated before releasing back them into the wild. Jessie had no pokemon besides Wheezing, as her others did not survive the early days of "The R". Jessie kept one wild Charmeleon whom Wheezing defeated for herself, but let all the Ratattas and Pidgeys she vaccinated go free. They were fairly weak pokemon and Jessie wanted to keep only strong ones that could realistically aid her in battle if she found herself needing to fight.

In the wilds, Jessie even found a few pokemon that were thought to have gone extinct due to "The R"! Many pokemon species did die out from it, but apparently more survived than Jessie had previously thought.

Jessie vaccinated a Marrowak and let it free. She would have liked to keep it, but thought that it might have more of its own kind out in the woods somewhere that it could breed with to re-propagate the species. Jessie also sighted a Vaporeon near a creek. She was unable to capture it as it dove into the water and melded with it as Vaporeons do when it was confronted with Wheezing. Wheezing was not able to find Vaporeon after that; thus it escaped Jessie's needle.

Strangely enough, some pokemon that had gone extinct or supposedly gone extinct were closely related to some that had survived "The R" quite well. Such it was with the various "Eeveelutions". Jolteons and Flareons survived well, while Vaporeons and Eevees were thought to have died out! This also had happed with Meowths and Persians. Persians perished while a few Meowths continued to survive.

So Jessie traveled on, on her "Leave of Absence" curing and vaccinating people she met and pokemon.

Chapter 5 - Encounter in the Pokecenter

"Whinnnnnniiiiieeeeeee!" cried Ponyta one morning as Jessie rode, continuing on her mission, not found out by the Rocket Survivors yet. The horse smelled a strange scent upon the wind. Jessie relaxed her grip on the pokemon's reigns and let the young stallion take her where he wanted. As the fiery beast ascended the rise of a hill, Jessie saw the vacant old Viridian City!

This was a place that held great meaning and memory for Jessie. The Boss of Team Rocket back in the Old Days before "The R" had had a Pokemon Gym here. Viridian City was also the place where she and James had met Ash and his special Pikachu, which begun a string of ignominious failures in their trying to capture it.

Jessie rode through th the empty streets, seeing stores with their windows busted out, the result of looting in the earliest days of "The R"'s ravages. She rode past walls and buildings with graffiti scrawled all over them: "Beware The R", "Rocket Killers", "The End of the World Has Come" and various other phrases.

Jessie came near to Viridian City's old Pokemon Center. She remembered the place well. It had been destroyed by Ash's Pikachu when she and James had first encountered the powerful little rodent, and then rebuilt later. Then Jessie sighted something that caught her attention. Standing just outside the entrance of the Pokecenter was a small pink Chansey! They were very rare and on the verge of extinction now! The rotund pink creature upon seeing Jessie coming toward it fled into the Pokemon Center. Jessie on Ponyta followed.

Ponyta's mane and tail lighted the dark interior of the abandoned Center. Jessie looked down its corridors s for the Chansey to no avail. She dismounted Ponyta and went into the Recovery Room, the poke-horse following. She saw, lined upon shelves, numerous pokeballs. Jessie opened them one by one, an assortment of creatures appearing before her eyes! She took vaccine samples and needles from Ponyta's saddlebag and made quick work of vaccinating the pokemon, knowing that they must have not been exposed to "The R" due to being inside the pokeballs.

Some of the creatures proved difficult to handle. She had to disorient a Tauros with Wheezing's smoke screen before being able to treat it, for it had gone ball-mad, a mental illness that some pokemon could experience if left inside their pokeballs for too long a time. It had typically effected the more freedom-loving species, and wild Tauros were known to like to roam vast spaces. These pokemon had all been inside their balls for over two years!

A Pikachu very nearly shocked Jessie to death when she released it from its spherical prison, her Charmeleon subdued it.

"Chansey! Chansey!" Jessie's ears perked up at the sound. She found the Chansey she had been chasing standing in the Recovery Room's doorway. It skittered away when she approached it, it had been watching her. She followed the pink nurse-pokemon, hoping to capture it. It could prove very useful to her in her quest, being a healing-type of pokemon. The Chansey lead Jessie to an Operating Room, and stopped before a bed. Lying on the bed was another Chansey!

The standing Chansey put its paw on the head of the one lying on the bed, the second Chansey was obviously sick, showing symptoms that Jessie recognized as being specific to "The R".

"Chan-sey! Sey! Chan-sey!" the standing pokemon said to Jessie, pleading to her with its eyes, obviously understanding that she could help. The standing Chansey looked weak itself, not from sickness but from exhaustion. Jessie speculated td that the well Chansey had been trying to heal its friend, and was exhausted after many failed attempts to use its powers.

This scene brought a twinge of immense pain to Jessie, for it reminded her of when she stayed by James' beside. She whistled for Ponyta and grabbed some of the cure for those already ill out of his saddlebag. She gently placed some of the dry powder of plants and mushrooms into the dying Chansey's mouth. She told the other Chansey that the only thing to do now was to wait.

Jessie heard a sound coming from one of the Pokecenter's other Operating Rooms. It sounded like moaning. She wandered toward it, Ponyta beside her, leaving the Chanseys. The sounds became words as Jessie neared their source.

"Mother, soon I will join you. Father too. Your last son's about to be with you again, groooooannnn...."

Jessie was struck by what she saw as she pushed open the door to the other O.R. It was Brock, huddled in a corner! The stale and awful aroma of sickness hung thickly in the air. Jessie neared the very weak Survivalista soldier, who had at one time dreamed of becoming a Pokemon Breeder. Brock was very pale, and he sat hugging his knees and moaning.

"Brock? What are you doing here?" Jessie asked.

The young man looked at her quizzically; "You!" he hissed.

"Let me help you."

"You! Help me? Should I trust a murderer?"

"I regret 'The R' as much as you do, Brock. I was not a part of its creation, whether you choose to believe the truth or not is up to you. I've broken away from the Rocket Survivors. I'm spreading the cure to all without their knowledge. I can help you. Let me help you."

Jessie grabbed Brock up in her strong arms. He was too weak to resist. She laid him on one of the Operating Room's beds and covered him with a blanket. She gave him some of the dried powder out of Ponyta's saddlebag and wet a cloth to place on his head. She left for a few minutes and returned wheeling the bed with the Chansey to the room from the other Operating Room, the well Chansey following behind in concern. This way, she could care for both of her patients. She left Chansey in the room with Brock to return to the Recovery Room to gather the other pokemon she had set free.

When she got there, she had found that most of them had left the Center to freedom. She returned the rest to their pokeballs and clipped them upon her belt. Jessie decided that they were hers now. She now had a Doduo, a Ninetales, a Raichu, and a Persian! This Persian was perhaps the last one left in the world now.

Jessie returned to Brock's Operating Room. She grabbed various items of medical equipment stocked in cabinets within the room and set them down at a table. She began work making more vaccine and cure from her recipes, restocking her supply. She mused as she worked, hoping that all the other people she had given the recipes to were at work on their own batches of cure. She only had a few more places to go, a few more scattered settlements of people to go to, then her mission would be complete, that is, if the people were in fact using the recipes and spreading the cure, as she knew that they must be doing.

After a long night of work, Jessie curled up on an additional bed and fell asleep. The next day she awakened to find Brock missing! She asked the Chanseys, the sick one had recovered thanks to her medicine overnight.

"Chan-sey! Chansey!" was all they had to say and they shook their heads, communicating to Jessie that they didn't know where the young man had gone to. Jessie left the Pokecenter astride Ponyta, putting the willing Chanseys into pokeballs, whom she had named Fortune and Chance. With her knew pokemon acquisitions, Jessie went on to continue her mission.

Chapter 6 - Capture!

Jessie rode out of Chartreuse City a week later, having made peace with the leaders of the Survivalistas. She did not see Brock as she had hoped. The Survivalistas had the recipe for "The R"'s cure and vaccine now. It was night.

"To Protect the World From Devastation!"

Jessie turned her head toward the sound. Two figures stepped out of a dark alley!

"To Unite All Peoples Within our Nation!"
"To Denounce the Evils of Truth and Love!"
"To Extend Our Reach to the Stars Above!"
"Charley!"
"Rosa!"
"Team Rocket Blasts off at the Speed of Light!"
"Surrender Now or Prepare to Fight!"
"Meowth! That's Right!"

A small furry pokemon joined Charley and Rosa. It was Meowth!

"Wes thought yous believed in dat, Jessie! Whys did ya betray us?!" the cat-pokemon asked.

"Yes;" explained Rosa; "We've heard of what you've been doing! You're famous! Oakley sent us after you. Now everyone has the cure! The cure! The Rocket Survivors will have a tough time of ruling the world now! Come, Charley, let us destroy this traitor!"

"Ponyta, run!" Jessie whispered to her stallion and sped through the streets of Chartreuse and out into its surrounding farm fields. Charley, Rosa, and Meowth chased behind on a Rapidash, whom Charley called out of a pokeball! As the Rapidash neared Jessie and her Ponyta, Meowth leapt off the fire-unicorn and onto Jessie, scratching her face with a tiger's ferocity! Jessie halted Pontya and called out her Persian, who promptly defended her against Meowth! As the felines fought, Jessie called out Ninetales, Charmeleon, and Raichu to do battle with Charley and Rosa!

"She has a Persian?!" Charley asked; "Aren't those extinct?"

Ninetales tore into the right-back leg of Charley's Rapidash, spraying blood and crippling the creature! While her pokemon battled Jessie's assailants, Jessie sped Ponyta on!

Suddenly, Jessie felt herself wrenched from the saddle of Ponyta and her skin scraping in the dirt! Rosa had thrown a lasso around her!

"Ha! Ha!" Rosa laughed; "Lookie what this cowgirl just done lassoed!"

Charley whipped a gun from his belt and shot Ninetales. His Geodude that he called out to battle had defeated Jessie's Raichu and the Flareon that Rosa had called out to battle had defeated Jessie's Charmeleon. Meowth stood over a fainted Persian on the ground!

Charmeleon had fought well, giving Flareon a few stinging injuries, but the others of Jessie's were weak, due to long confinement in pokeballs with no experience battling in over two years!

Rosa and Charley wrenched Jessie's hands behind her back and bound them together so tightly, Jessie's wrists began to bleed a little as the rope rubbed into her skin! Meowth held Ponyta by the reigns. Charley shot his crippled Rapidash, who was now laying on the ground, unable to rise from the he fatal tear Ninetales had given her just below her right buttock. Rosa, Charley, and Meowth mounted Jessie's Ponyta leading Jessie on foot, tied to the saddle like a Growlithe on a leash. They took Jessie's pokemon (except the slain Ninetales) into pokeballs and swiped her remaining pokeballs (containing her Chanseys and Wheezing) from her belt. They lead her down the long path to Magenta City.

Chapter 7 - Labyrinth

Upon returning to Magenta City, Jessie stood trial before Oakley, William, and Annie. Sentence was pronounced: Death. Rocket members Bonnie and Clyde dragged Jessie to the great underground prison beneath Magenta, her painful execution planned three days after the judgement was passed. It was to be a grand spectacle, with all of the Rocket Survivors of Magenta City in attendance.

"The prisoners down here just may do the job for us!" Bonnie laughed as she shoved Jessie down a dark entrance door! The door clanged shut and Jessie was lefeft on the cold stone floor of the great natural cavern that was the prison. Bonnie reminded Jessie a lot of another Team Rocket member she used to know, Cassidy who had died from "The R". Both had a sadism about them, a liking to see others in pain, a general cruel aura about them. Bonnie even had blond hair like Cassidy's, just not in quite the same style. Bonnie always wore one long braid down her back.

Jessie rose to her feet and wandered down the cavern. The prison had no cells, it was just one huge cave in which the Rocket Survivors' prisoners where thrown. Jessie shuddered. She knew that Bonnie's words could most definitely prove true. Most of the people in here were here because of her.

"What do we have here?" a voice in the darkness sneered.

"Could it be Jessie?" another voice hissed darkly.

"Back off!" came yet another voice, a youthful voice.

Jessie looked around. Behind her were two large men, one she recognized as a Survivalista that had been captured and the other a Liberante. To her front was a teenager, Ash!

"Do you forget, boy?! You're down in this stinking Ratatta-hole because of her too! Should we not have a little fun with her?!"

"Leave her alone!" Ash reiterated; "They must have put her down here for a reason!"

He turned to Jessie; "Come with me."

Ash led Jessie to a small side cavern, Xavier was there. He and Ash had set up something like a little living quarters. The middle-aged man, Xavier, was sitting over a small campfire fueled by twigs scavenged from places inside the cavern. Before the Rocket Survivors had sealed up the cave entrances, twigs and branches from trees and bushes on the surface used to blow down into the cold, dark labyrinth. Xavier cooked the meager rations that he and Ash received from what the Rocket Survivor guards had thrown down for the inmates.

Jessie explained what what she had been doing over the last couple of months, and apoligized profusely to Ash and Xavier for what she had done to them.

"Well;" said Xavier; "at least my dream for giving the cure to the world is fulfilled."

"But I'm going to die in a few days;" Jessie sighed.

"It will not end here..." a voice from nowhere said. A light filled the cavern where Jessie, Ash, and Xavier were. Jessie saw an ethereal figure that she recognized, Xavier and Ash were awestruck.

"James?" Ash asked.

He was, as always, accompanied by his two escort angels.

"James? I'm not going to die?" Jessie asked.

"No, the Lord says that it is not your time yet, Jessie."

Ash stood staring at the spirit of his onetime enemy.

"Misty is in Heaven and at peace, Ash." James informed; "Soon you all shall be free..."

Just then, a massive explosion rocked the cavern! An enormous hole was blasted through the cave-roof of Xavier's grotto! Jessie looked up and saw several people staring in, including the face of Brock! Jessie turned around. James and the angels had disappeared.

"After you showed kindness by curing me;" Brock said; "I learned of what you had been doing, Jessie. I hooked up with these fine Barbarian wanderers here. I found out that the Rockets had got you and we decided to come and set you free! Glad we managed to find enough dynamite!"

Brock lifted Ash, Jessie, and Xavier out of the cave into the sunlight. Other prisoners flocked toward the newly opened tear and were lifted out by the people above. Meanwhile, the people with Brock had called out pokemon and were fiercely and valiantly fighting with Rocket Survivors who had discovered that a jailbreak was in progress! Brock led Ash, Xavier and Jessie to a waiting jeep and others followed behind jumping into jeeps and cars. They sped out of Magenta City, Jesessie leaving her former Rocket friends in the dust.

James looked on, with his two guardian angels. His mission was complete. He had given the message and comfort to Jessie, his dearest friend while he lived. She had fulfilled most of her mission, and now, speeding off with Brock, Ash, and Xavier, she would complete the giving of the secrets of the vaccine and cure to the world. James smiled watching Jessie make her escape as the angels escorted him back Home.
