Jessie and James in the snow
by Shade

It was unusually cold that morning when Jessie woke up. She didn't mind it; she actually liked the cold. She especially loved the snow. The only happy part of her childhood was playing in the snow with her mother. Last year when she reunited with it after years, she was so happy. Seeing that snow, and eating it once again brought back happy memories. At the time Jessie forgot the real meaning of it.

As Jessie got out of her bed and looked out the window, she almost expected to see it snowing outside. "Snap out of it Jess," she said to herself. "You know it's not good to get hopes up."

That woke James up. "Did you say something Jess?" he asked. "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! It's cold!" He shivered and pulled his blanket over his head. "Hey Jess, what do you say we buy a heater? Jess??" he repeated under the covers when she didn't answer. He took a peek out of his warm blanket and saw Jessie with her hand pressed on their window with a forlorn expression on her face.

He sighed and began the difficult task of getting up out of bed and approaching her. He shivered and mumbled something incoherently as he was walking barefoot on the bare wooden tiles. When he came up to her, he put a hand on her shoulder, which caused her to spin around. He giggled.

"Oh James it's you," she said, startled.

"Who were you expecting?" he asked still smiling.

"No one," she replied. "Did you say something James?" she asked directing her attention back to the window.

"I said why don't we get a heater," he repeated kinda ticked off. James never liked being ignored.

Jessie unhappily directed her attention back to James. "You know we could never afford one, James. Besides this is only one cold day. Learn to deal with it. In a couple of months you'll be whining for air conditioning." Jessie knew she sounded a bit harsh, but this was just one of the many times she didn't control the words escaping her mouth.

"Hey who knows?! We got a TV," he fought back, looking at their petite, antiquated, black and white, hunk of junk.

"I wouldn't exactly call that thing a TV," Jessie replied.

"If you do recall James, da boss gave it to us about two years ago. It was intended for us to watch the news at times to see if we were on it." James glared at Meowth, who had just woken up and joined their conversation. "Well, then we can ask the boss for a heater" he retaliated.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahah!" Meowth laughed. "Dat is the dumbest idea I've heard from you yet! Da boss gave it to us when we were on his good side, before those brats came along. You think he will actually give us anything now, other than a kick in the pants, and some more vulgar language?"

"But it's a necessity!" James whined.

"Ha! You're da one who wants it so badly, why don't you ask the boss?"

Jessie was watching Meowth and James argue, they could go on for a very long time she thought. She was not amused.

James opened his mouth to say something again, but then realized he was fighting a losing battle. He knew perfectly well what would happen if he asked the boss, and Meowth was right. He just didn't want to face reality. "Ok ok!" He said. "I give up. I guess I'll just wear those uncomfortable wool sweaters we have around here" He sulked. James looked at Jessie and saw her staring out the window again. "Wonder what's up with her today?" he thought.

Later that day, Jessie poked at her lunch, still daydreaming about the snow. James and Meowth were watching the weather forecast on the news.

"Well it looks like we're getting a cold front around Celadon city," said the cheerful voice of the meteorologist. "We're looking at temperatures in the low 20's later on today. Looks like we might even be able to see some snow sometime if this keeps up!"

When Jessie heard the weatherman mention the snow she smiled.

"Wow!" James exclaimed. "Maybe that cold weather isn't all that bad!" He looked at Jessie and saw her smiling, watching the TV attentively. "So Jess I bet you can't wait to play in the snow again. Are you gunna make us eat more Smorgasbord (an actual word!)?" He giggled, remembering her obsession with eating snow. James knew very little about Jessie's past other than that. She liked to keep it to herself. He guessed she had a tormented childhood as well.

Jessie paused before she answered. She thought she should love the snow, it was the only happy thing about her childhood. She loved playing with it, and eating it as well when she was little. Although it was the snow that killed her mother when she was about 8 years old... Jessie never forgot how devastated she was when she found out the news. She never wanted to forgive the snow for doing that to her.

"No" Jessie said with a frown on her face. "I hate the snow, and I do not want anything to do with it."

"Ok sorry I asked" James mumbled.

Jessie put her jacket on and went to the door. "I'm going for a walk."

"Are you going to be back soon?" asked a still hungry Meowth who was eying her lunch.

"Maybe, bye" was all she said as she slammed the front door.

"Hey, guess she doesn't want her rice ball anymore!" said a pleased Meowth. He grabbed her food and began working on it.

James was a little disturbed. "Hey Meowth," he said. "I'm worried about Jess today." He looked Meowth in the eyes with a solemn expression. "She's acting awfully weird today."

"Howglubd?" Meowth asked with rice stuffed in his mouth.

The sight of the cat made James give a little smile for a second. "Well for one, she hasn't yelled at us all day, and she seems very quiet and depressed today. That's just not like her at all."

"She's a big girl James, she'll get over it." Meowth replied after he swallowed.

"Maybe...Hey wait!" James sprang up off his chair, almost knocking it over. He just remembered something important. He took out his old diary and leafed through the pages, trying to find the one of that day last year. He began to read it when he found the entry.

"What are you doing James?" Meowth asked. "Strange that you pick now 'da time to be looking true..."

"Meowth listen to this," James interrupted when he finished reading the entry. "On this exact day of last year, Jessie was acting the same way! I knew there was something familiar about her behavior." He put that diary away and took out another one, from 2 years ago. "Same with two years ago," he deducted. "Meowth, do you think this day marks some kind of anniversary of something traumatic for Jessie?"

"Yeah, you're probably right" Meowth answered. "Question is, what kind of anivoisary is it..."

"Maybe today marks the day her mother died," James said quietly looking out the window. "I feel sorry for her."

Meowth walked over to James and sat beside him. "It's ok James, she'll get over it. You just have to be especially nice to her today. And let her be, I bet she doesn't want to be bothered by it."

"Of course I will," James replied. "It's bad enough she has to deal the emotions inside her. You know Jessie, she always keeps everything locked up inside her. I just sometimes wish I had the key..."

All of a sudden Jessie walked back into their cabin. She approached James "I need a rose, can I have one?" she asked.

"Yeah sure Jess," James said, a little surprised at her arrival. "Do you want red or white?"

"Red," she said in a monotone voice.

"Ummmmm ok..." James went to his cabinet and searched around in it.

"Ummmm Jess," he said, "I don't have anymore red roses right now...Would you settle for the white...?"

"NO!" she said loud enough to sound like she was yelling. "I don't want the white one."

James was hurt. He was trying hard not to make her feel worse than she was, and he thought he was failing already. "Ok," he said, looking at the ground.

Jessie sighed. She didn't mean to hurt him. "I'm sorry James. I better go now." She turned to the door.

"Wait!" James yelled before Jessie headed out the door again. He decided to take another chance. "Jessie," he said locking his eyes with hers. "If you want to talk about anything, you can talk to me, and I'll listen."

At that moment Jessie really did want to talk to him. Her heart ached to tell him everything. All her feelings were bottled up inside. As much as she wanted to, she wouldn't pop the hidden cork inside her body. She still wanted to keep everything in her bottle. Jessie didn't know why. "He's my best friend," she thought. "Why can't I tell him?" She began to get very confused.

"Ok James. I'll keep that in mind" was all she said before she departed again.

Jessie was in deep thought as she was making her five-mile walk to her mother's grave. James was right. It was this day exactly 10 years ago when her mother, Miyamoto, died in an avalanche. Jessie only visited her mother annually on this day. She had asked James for a rose to put one on her mother's grave. She didn't have anything to put on it. As if on cue, Jessie noticed a tiny little purple thing peek out from the cold, dark brown ground. She crouched to take a good look at it. It was a small violet. It was the first flower she saw grow in months. She smiled and plucked it out of the ground, and twirled it around. "Well it's no rose, but cute and small." She smiled and put it into her pocket.

When Jessie was in the vicinity of her mother's burial site, she felt something small drop on her arm. It was hardy noticeable, but Jessie did, thought about it for a second, then ignored it. But she began to feel more and more of these minute things drop all over her body. She looked up at the sky and saw fresh snowflakes drop out of it. She stopped dead in her tracks and went into an immediate flashback.

"But mommy!" a seven-year-old Jessie whined. "It's extra snowy today! It'll be worse high in the mountains. You might have the frost bite you!"

Miyamoto chuckled when she saw the solemn look on her daughter's face. She scooped Jessie into her lap. "It's ok honey. If it helps, I promise to be extra careful today. I have to go try and catch that Mew today, and I must. I can not defy her."

Chibi Jessie stuck her tongue out. "Do ya hafta do everything that Rosalita says?" Jessie asked. Jessie didn't like her mother's boss for always making her go on missions. Rosalita meant just one thing to Jessie. Someone else to take her mother's attention.

"Yes sweetheart I do," she answered. "She's my boss, and I have to do everything she says. When you grow up you will find out that you have to do everything your boss tells you to do as well. Unfortunately..."

"Nu uh!" Jessie said. "When I grow up, I'm gunna be my own boss!"

"Ok sweetie." Miyamoto ruffled her daughter's hair. "I have to go now. I'll be back later tonight. You know the rules, and please be good this time." Miyamoto remembered the Diglett incident. Jessie had thought it would be wonderful to have a whole herd of Digletts as playmates. She had invited about 15 of those small pesky creatures in last time she went out. They tracked sooooo much dirt in the house, which she still was cleaning to that day.

"I will mom," Jessie assured as she walked her mother to the door.

"Bye Jessie. I love you! I'll be back soon, and remember NO UNWANTED HOUSEGUESTS!"

"Bye mom, love you too!" Jessie waved frantically as her mother disappeared from her sight.

But Jessie's mom never did come back that night. That was the last time Jessie had ever seen her mother. The person that did come to her house was a Team Rocket associate.

Jessie was afraid to open the door when he knocked. Her mother always told her never to open the door to strangers. She had always said something about the woods being a great place for 'unlucky convicts' to hide out, for the local police station wasn't far from it. Jessie did open the door a little slit, she thought this guy could tell her where her mom was.

"Are you Jessica?" the giant Rocket asked.

"Yes," Jessie replied in a very small voice.

"I must talk to you, Jessica," he said. "I'm sorry to inform you of your mother's unfortunate mishap in the mountains."

Jessie opened the door a little bit more. "Huh? What are you talking about?" Jessie knew something was wrong at that point. The Rocket's eyes were darting about the room. "Tell me!" she persisted.

"Your mother..." He was having trouble saying it. The Rocket was almost heartless, but he hated breaking the news to the little girl. "Your mother has been killed in an avalanche."

There was a silence. Jessie began to get white. Nothing could describe what Jessie was feeling at that point. She looked into the Rocket's eyes. "You're lying!" she screamed as she ran out of the house, tears streaming down her face. But she knew it was true. It was an awful truth. She ran and ran, until she collapsed from exhaustion.

"Why snow why?" she cried. "Why? I thought you liked us. Why did you do this to us? Why?" She sobbed harder. No one came to her. She was all alone...

Jessie's flashback ended. It triggered unwanted memories to flood back into her head. She broke down and cried, for her pain over the years. About a minute later, she regained her composure and sprung back to her feet. She glared up at the sky. "I hate you snow! Go away! I moved away from you, so I would never have to see you again. Why did you have to come back now? To haunt me?" Deep down inside Jessie didn't really blame the snow for her mother's death. She was just angry and hurt. She didn't know who or what to blame. She sighed and figured out that yelling at the snow was not going to resolve her problems.

Jessie took the little violet out of her pocket and put it on her mother's grave. All of a sudden it began to glow. It was bright, bright purple. Jessie backed up and stared up at it. She began to get an eerie feeling and slowly shifted her vision up at the sky. There was a bright haze forming in it. It was coming towards her. It was taking shape as it got closer, and closer to the ground. Jessie was scared out of her wits. She couldn't move. She thought it was an alien or something of that sort. It took its final form when it reached the ground. Jessie couldn't believe her eyes. Jessie was staring at her mother!

"Jessie," she spoke. "Do you remember me?"

Jessie was dumbfounded here was her dead mother talking to her. She didn't know what to think of it. "Y-yes" She stuttered. "Mommy?" she said with tears in her eyes.

"Yes sweetie," said her mother. "It's me."

Jessie slowly walked towards her and looked at her carefully. Almost trying to read her.

Miyamoto pulled Jessie into a hug. She began to cry even harder. She was so happy, yet scared inside.

"My time is limited here honey. I must tell you all I need to before I go..." Miyamoto wanted to stay with her daughter and be her mother. She had wanted to guide Jessie in her life so many times before. Though the best she could do was watch her grow up from above.

Jessie tried to regain her composure. "I really missed you mom." More tears began to spill down Jessie's face. "Why did that have to happen?"

"I don't know Jessie." Miyamoto replied. "I don't know why things happen. You mustn't put blame on anything for this though."

Jessie thought about that and looked up at the sky. She always had something to blame. Even for her smallest misfortunes. She didn't except the fact that bad things sometimes just happened, nothing had to have made them happen.

Miyamoto put a hand on Jessie's shoulder. "I need to tell you something Jessie. For years, after my death, I've been watching over you. That was all I could do, watch. I couldn't make any impact whatsoever on your life." She paused. "I was very lucky to come down here today. All I want you to know is that, I've been looking over you."

"You mean..." Jessie said

"Yes, I've watched you slowly grow up. I was there when you joined the Tech school, and met James. And then...Team Rocket."

"But how?" Jessie was very confused. "Are you a ghost, mom?" She got a little scared all over again.

Miyamoto smiled at that. "No honey not really," she answered. "I'm what you would call an angel, I guess...Just not with wings."

"Did you ever go to hell?" Jessie didn't think so, but she had to be sure.

"No sweetie," she answered. "There really is no such thing as hell. My purpose was just to come down and tell you I've always been there for you."

"I never knew..." Jessie said. "I'm glad I do now though".

"Jessie, I need to talk to you about James..." Miyamoto said.

"What about him?" Jessie asked.

"Well, you see honey..." Miyamoto hesitated. "You and James both have had very hard lives. Both of you had been burdened with so much responsibility during your childhood, and both of you couldn't take it. That's why you joined Team Rocket, isn't it?"

Jessie thought about that before she answered. She wanted to join the heinous organization because she was sick of being a failure. Instead she thought she was more of one. "Yes," she finally answered.

"There are some things you don't know about James," Miyamoto continued.

"Huh? Like what?"

"Jessie, like you, James had a very difficult childhood." Miyamoto paused. She didn't want to break it to Jessie on what her best friend had gone through. "As a boy, he was expected to act like an adult at a very young age."

"I know," Jessie interrupted.

"Yes, what you didn't know is that he was constantly punished for just...being himself".

Jessie began to get confused. "What do you mean by that?"

"Jessiebell...She was made the enforcer by his parents. She always punished him in obscure ways," Miyamoto answered.

"You mean she always hit him with that whip!" Jessie began to get it, and was getting angrier by the minute. "How could that witch beat him like that constantly? He is a boy after all. He should NOT have taken it!"

"His parents..." Miyamoto paused. "His parents did it themselves if he tried to stop it. James had thought it hurt a less when Jessiebell hit him, so he took it." Miyamoto paused again and looked at Jessie. "Jessie, James is a lot stronger than you think he is. It took a lot of courage and power for him to even take living in that environment as a child."

"I never knew that." Jessie said quietly. She was feeling a mixture of emotions. She was ticked off at what Jessiebell did to her best friend, yet she was upset over how he was treated.

"Jessie," Miyamoto continued. "James feels..." She looked Jessie in the eyes. "He wants to be loved."

"Huh?" Jessie got confused. She assumed her mother wanted her to start a romantic relationship with her partner. She turned bright red. "No mom. I can't exactly love James."

"I think you misunderstood honey," Miyamoto said after a moment. "Perhaps you don't understand my usage for love."

"Oh I understand..." Jessie began.

"Just think about it Jessie. I love you because you're my daughter. Love James because he is your best friend."

"I love you too, mom, but James....It's different."

"How so?"

"Well...James is a guy."

"I don't think it's different at all. Let me ask you something, Jessie. Do you care about James?"

Jessie pondered the question before she answered. She knew deep inside, that she did care about him. She had ever since she got to know him, though she just couldn't tell. Jessie had lost everything she loved during her childhood. Her mother, her father, her favorite dolly, and later her pet female Nidoran had to be sold. James meant a lot to her, and she thought that admitting that she cared about him would hurt her deeply. Especially if she would ever lose him. "Yes," she finally answered. "I do care about him."

"I'm glad to hear that. Now you can go tell him."

"But I..." she started.

"There's no excuse Jessica. You should tell him."

"No, I can't." Jessie turned away and tried to keep back the tears that were threatening to fall out of her eyes. She didn't want to be hurt again, and was sure if she gave the slightest hint she cared about him, she would feel the same pain as when her mother left her.

"Jessie, what's wrong?" Miyamoto walked over to face her daughter. She noticed more tears in her eyes, and put her hand on her shoulder. "Why is it so difficult for you to share your true feelings?"

This was the question that bothered her. It was one thing to not to tell James, but Jessie knew she had to tell her mother. "Because...If I tell him, I'm afraid that if he leaves me, I'll feel just as bad as when you left me." As she said this, more tears began to fall from her eyes.

Miyamoto hesitated her words and thought over what her daughter had just told her. "So, you acted like you never cared about anyone, because you were afraid?"

"Yeah," Jessie mumbled. She kept this all a secret inside her for all this time. She wasn't too thrilled she told it to anyone, even her mother. Jessie looked down to the ground.

"It's ok Jessie. I understand." Miyamoto knew what angle to take Jessie's problem at. "It was really a traumatic experience you went through when I departed. James does mean a lot to you, and so does that Meowth."

"Yeah mom," she answered. Jessie was really mixed up. She had one of two choices. She could keep her relationship with James, and Meowth the way it was. Always yelling and smacking them upside the head half the time. Or she could act like she really cared for them. Jessie really didn't want to take the first choice, but at the same time, she didn't want to tell her partners.

Miyamoto could almost read Jessie's mind. She could sense her daughter's apprehension. "What if you do tell them Jessie?" she asked. "Have you looked at the positive effects of that?" Miyamoto wasn't angry, she was just trying to make a point.

Jessie sighed. "What positive effects? There can't be any."

"But Jessie, what if they don't?" she asked. "I think you have taken the wrong angle to this situation. If you have a better relationship with the people you love, it is guaranteed they will be less likely to ever leave you. You will be together for a long, long time, and that's what you really want, isn't it?"

Jessie thought about what her mom told her for a moment, and in that moment, everything came together and made all the sense to her. "You're right mom. All these years I've been really stupid." She hung her head down.

"No Jessie, you weren't being stupid," Miyamoto assured. "You were just confused." She paused. "Jessie...Do me a favor and please change it. For the better."

Jessie locked eyes with her mother. "I will mom. I promise."

"All right Jessie." Miyamoto knew her daughter was going to do as she promised, and she just left it at that. Miyamoto then knew her job was finished. She had told her daughter what she was dying to say for years. She also knew it was time to go back. "Jessie..." She hesitated Miyamoto didn't want to leave her daughter again, but she knew her place. "I must go now," she said.

"What? You can't! Don't leave me leave me, alone!" Jessie's eyes began to flood again. "Please don't leave me alone."

Miyamoto hated to see her daughter so upset, but she knew she had to leave. "Jessie, you aren't going to be alone. You never were alone to begin with. You just never realized it." She paused. "Your relationship with your friends is very strong, and I know it will improve with time."

"But I don't want you to go! I just want to have a mother again." All the tears were blurring Jessie's vision.

"You always have had me Jessie," Miyamoto said before she began to float back up. "I'm sorry you didn't know it in the past, but let me make it clear to you now. I love you. You are my one and only child, and I will continue watching over you."

Jessie understood what was being told to her, and knew she once again had a mother. Perhaps a different kind, but still one nevertheless. Jessie looked up at her mother as she was floating up higher and higher into the sky. She sprung up. "I love you mom!" she yelled. "Bye!" She paused. "And thank you," she said quietly. "Thank you." She sighed as her mother escaped her vision, and began to walk. Jessie knew she had to go home.

Shortly into her trip back home, the sun began to set. Jessie stopped for a minute to admire the spectacular sight. The mixture of pink, orange, and purple dazzled her. This was actually the first time in her eighteen years that she had appreciated true beauty. Jessie stayed there for a while, watching the entire sunset. It was beginning to get dark and even colder by the minute.

Then out of the blue, Jessie broke out into a sprint. She didn't know the exact reason why she was running. Maybe because she was cold, or maybe just because she wanted to go home. Jessie ran, and ran, and ran. When her body told her to stop, her soul pushed her forward. Jessie stopped only when she thought her heart was about to burst open.

She ran and ran and ran until she thought her heart was about to burst. Jessie had almost ran three miles. She was inhaling oxygen like a fish going back into the water after a very long trip on land... "I bet that would beat any mile time I had at the tech," she said when her breathing became more normal. She then began to walk, still aching to go back home.

Jessie was getting near the Orchid forest, where her home was, when she spotted two figures emerging from the end of it, a little cat and a purple haired tall boy. Jessie smiled. When the two spotted her walking towards them, they stopped and waited for Jessie to approach them.

"Hey Jess! Where have you been?" James asked nervously. He didn't let her answer his question and just continued talking. "You see it was getting dark, and cold, and the snow...and..." He paused.

"He was worried about you!" Meowth finished with a smirk. "I told him dat chu were a big girl but he insisted we come out and look for you."

James blushed a scarlet red. He gave Meowth a look. "Jessie," he said looking into her eyes. "Did something bad happen?" James was genuinely concerned.

Jessie saw it and went up to him. She wrapped her arms around him for a hug. Jessie had wanted to do this ever since she had that talk with her mother. "Yeah James I've never felt better."

James was taken back by all this. He didn't get why Jessie was hugging him. He had thought after visiting her mother's grave, she would be either sad, angry, or a bad mixture of both. It was actually completely the opposite. The only time they ever hug is when they cling to each other with terror. He didn't really think count that as hugging anyway. Right then James decided to stop caring about why Jessie was hugging him, he just wanted to enjoy it. So he hugged her back.

"Lets go home." Jessie said after a minute with a smile. "No wait..." She hesitated. "I've got something to tell you." She looked at James, then at Meowth, and continued. "I care about you two a lot." She paused and let the words try to sink in to her partners.

"While I was gone, I learned a lot of things. Including that I care about you two numskulls a lot." She smiled. "But seriously, I wouldn't know what I would do with out you. Also..." She hesitated again. Jessie knew admitting her big confusion was going to be hard. "The reason I've been treating you badly ever since I knew you is because I was afraid."

Jessie's eyes began to cloud with tears again. "Everyone I loved as a child departed from me. I was scared that if I ever loved you two, I would feel as bad when my mother and everyone else departed. Actually I probably would feel even worse." She snuck a look a James, and saw through her blurred vision that his eyes began to cloud up as well.

"I know that I hurt you two immensely at times, physically and even mentally. I just wanted to say I'm sorry. You had to know why. I didn't want you to get the assumption that I'm a heartless criminal." She got a good look at them. "We all are criminals, but not heartless. I know that if we had had better childhoods, we wouldn't have screwy lives right now." She sighed. "I know you can't change the past, but I just wanted to tell you I'm sorry." She looked down at the ground, it was harder than she anticipated.

After a moment's silence, James went over to her and pulled her into a hug. He started to cry, and caused a spontaneous reaction with Jessie and Meowth, who climbed up on to Jessie, hugging her too.

"It's ok Jessie," James sniffed. "I'm sorry what happened before, and I forgive you." He paused. "Jess...I care about you too, and I'm sure you know it. I just was afraid you would never care about me back." He gave a little smile. "I guess I was wrong, and I'm happy I was. I don't think anyone has ever cared about me before, not even my parents." He paused again. "But there's one thing you've got to remember."

"W-what?" Jessie stuttered. She was so choked with emotion that she could barely talk clearly. She was trying hard to suppress her tears, but was not succeeding. Finding out her best friend cared about her meant a lot more than she had ever thought it would mean.

James took her hand. "You're my best friend and there's no way I can ever find anyone like you. The truth is that, I was sometimes afraid you would someday leave me, and I didn't know how to even think on what I would do without you. I mean, we're like...two halves of a whole. We can't be split up, if we do we lose a part of us that cannot be replaced. I understand now."

Jessie stopped fighting her tears, and just let them come down again. "I'm sorry I made you think that. I didn't *sniff* mean it." Jessie pulled him into a hug again and they both cried some more.

Meowth who had kept quiet during all of it, burst into huge waterfall *anime* tears. "Dat's so beautiful! I didn't think anyone cared about me either. You know the story...'The Persians'." He shuddered. "I didn't have the dyzzayah (desire)** to ever care about anything. Then you two came along..." He paused. "I guess I was having the same kind of situation Jessie was."

"Really?" Jessie crouched and gave Meowth a pet. "I'm glad I wasn't the only one." Jess stood back up. "Let's go home you two! I'm kinda sick of crying for today." Even though it has helped in some way. She looked at the feline. "Meowth, you can ride on my head if you want to."

"Ok!" Meowth sprang up onto her shoulders. He always loved riding on their heads for some unknown reason. He had a rare opportunity, and decided to take it.

A few minutes into their short trip back home, James asked what had been on his mind for the last couple of minutes (^_^). "Jess, what happened while you were gone at your mother's burial site?"

"How did you know where I went?"

"Lets just say that I know more about you than you think."

"That James," she said swinging her arm over his shoulder "is a long story."

"Ok, I'll take that for now." He was curious but decided not to pursue it.

They walked for a few more minutes, their arms still around one another, when James began to sing. "You know us as Team Rocket, and we fight for why is wrong..."

"We're tired of our motto, so we thought we'd try a song!" Jessie and Meowth joined in.

Jessie looked up at the sky, and she knew her mother was there. Her presence assured Jessie of her future, and what would become of it. She smiled, and knew she had the golden opportunity to be truly happy in her life.
