PEC DETENTION POLICY * 2008

The leadership committee has developed the following guidelines for PEC Detention:

Detention will be held on Tuesday and/or Wednesday of each week in Room # 1 from 12:55 PM to 1:25 PM.  This is a lunchtime detention, but will allow students a few minutes to use the restroom and get a lunch.  Dawn is the designated monitor.

Students can be sent to detention for violation of any school rule (tardy, dress code, no materials or supplies for class, disrupting class, etc.).  Students will be given one warning for each type of violation.  The second violation will result in detention.

Teachers will be responsible for keeping track of violations in their own classes.

Ø      Upon issuing a warning, complete the warning sections on the detention notice.   Make sure to get a student signature.  Keep the notice.

Ø      For the second violation, complete the detention sections of the notice and have students sign that they understand which date they need to attend detention, and place the notice in the detention envelope in Dawn’s mailbox.

Ø      Dawn will notify the referring teachers when and/or if their violators have served their time.

Ø      Violations, warnings, etc. will be tallied for the semester.  At the beginning of each semester, the students have clean slates.

If students continue to violate the school rules or do not serve their detentions, we have a more serious problem to deal with and further actions will be taken (parent conferences, meetings with the administrator or counselor, etc.).  It will be up to the referring teacher to follow through with further actions.

This new policy will be effective immediately (1/16/2008).
