| nce upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived two fair creatures, Sally and Fred. Though Sally and Fred had been married for many years, they remained childless. Oh, how they hoped and prayed for a baby! [Andrea R.] One day, there was a strange knock at their front door. Fred went to answer it...he look but nobody was there! He listened...and heard a small squeal. He looked down and saw a baby guinea pig in a basket. Fred rushed into the house to show Sally. They saw the note in the basket--it said,"I can't take care of my child, please keep him safe and warm." The couple chose a name for him--Licorice. They were so happy to finally have a child. | Three years have passed. Licorice has been raised in a warm and safe home with a mom and dad who love him dearly. But, he's been spoiled--every time he wants something, Fred and Sally give it to him! [Vimon T.] |

| Licorice is now six years old. His parents decided to enroll him at Guinea Pigs Education Center. At first Licorice was scared because he had never been away from his parents and he didn't know anybody else at school. His mom talked to him about going to school and he calmed down. She helped him get his stuff prepared for school--his clothing out and his backpack packed with his school things. Licorice was excited on that first day! His mom went to school and stayed in class with him. He got to know all of his classmates. Licorice liked his teacher, Steve, because he was nice and played games and activities with them like silent ball, four corners and heads-up seven-up. They also colored and did some finger painting. Licorice enjoyed going to school but he didn't like doing his homework. He wanted to play with his new friends, but knew that he had to finish his homework first. | Years have passed. L icorice's mom, Sally, wakes him up so he can get ready for his first day of junior high. He's very excited and nervous! He can't eat breakfast! He can't wait to start a new school! He's so...o...o...o... happy! When he gets to school, he sees all of the kids and gets really nervous. He doesn't know anybody! "Mom, I don't want to go to school..." His mother said, "Licorice, remember how much fun you had at school last year?" "Ah, yes, mom, I remember." " OK, I'll go." And he was out of the car.
