GLOBAL SCIENCE INFORMATION

I think science can be fun and interesting at times. I like doing experiments much better than reading out of a book.

This year we're going to study: Storms, Ecology, Food, Resources, Shelter, Disease, and Flight.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED!

Orientation to Global Science--What is Science? I've learned safety skills for use when I do my experiments. I've also learned about using scientific methods, inductive and deductive reasoning, and much more. I've learned that science is a tool and something you use in everyday life. Shelter- foundations and materials. This credit period I learned that new materials on building houses can change the damage effect that erosion, mass wasting, and earthquakes can cause. They are building new scientific materials so that natural disasters cannot harm the buildings as much. The foundation, or land, you build your house on can be good or bad. Loose soil can easily absorb water and cause erosion and flooding. Impacted soil may be better to build on.

Measuring Work- What did I learn? I learned how to measure force and work done. When carrying books up a flight of stairs, I checked to see how much time I took to get to the top. I also weighed myself with the books. After all this, I learned how to put this into joules of power, and was able to measure my work. Just a little bit of information can take you a long way in this. It was also fun!
