Global Science Information Page

Science is an exciting field with an immense amount of possibilities and variables. Without science, the world, as we know it, would be somewhat lost in all the mysteries that surround us in our every day lives. The fields of science are growing every day and changing faster than society can keep up. Every day new ground is broke and yet, there is still new ground that remains to be broken. Goals that haven't been reached, questions left unanswered. In the age of computer simulated science it has become easier to control variables but has still left us with many uncertainties. Who knows how far we will be able to go in the future? At the rate we are finding out things we never knew existed, we may never put an end to some of the mysteries of life.

So sit back, enjoy the limited information I have accumulated and relax!

This year in Global Science we will study about storms, energy, aeronautics and inventions.

What I've Learned!

Orientation to Global Science--What is Science?

I learned to light the match first before I start the propane on the bunson burner. Also, it's not a good idea to smell different types of chemicals.

Inductive reasoning is when I take facts to form a rule. Deductive reasoning is when I use the rules to determine the facts.

The four major disciplines of science are: biology, chemistry, Earth science and physics.

Storms:In this unit we learned about, you guessed it, storms. Things like the nature of storms and how unpredictable they really are. Also the particulars, like the speed of a tornado and the width of the eye of a hurricane.

Measuring Work: Through this experiment I learned how to measure the effort put into the work we do.

Creating Stronger Building Materials--In this experiment we changed the variable of the refinforcement to what ever we thought would create the strongest support. Of the variety of items we had to choose from, we chose paper clips. Through an elaborate set up of plaster of paris and a somewhat 3-D grid, we built our material. It held up suprisingly well!
