Global Science

This year I really hope to learn more about science, and have fun while I am learning.

The topics we will be discussing this year include: Storms, Ecology, Food, Resources, Genetics and Science Project #2, Shelter, Disease, Flight, Technology and Inventions.

WHAT IVE LEARNED!

Oreintation to Global Science--What is Science? So far I have learned what SI means, International System Of Units, and I've learned how to write up lab reports on my experiments on plastic wraps and my experiment on microorganisms. One thing that I am still tyring to learn is what control means when your doing an experiment. The most important thing that I think I've learned is what kind of people I work best with in groups, to me it's the most important thing I've learned because to be able to work good and be a productive person while working with people you have to be able to get along with the people your working with.

SCIENCE PROJECT: I will be starting on a science project about baby wipes.

Storms-Investigation: Does solar radiation affect the earth? I learned from this investigation that dust and moisture in the air does affect the earth. I also learned if I want to make my investigation more like the real world how to do that by using certain materials. Materials like actual dust or dirt,to represent the smog and dust in the air instead of using the flour.

Shelter-Foundations & Materials. This credit period, I learned that you need certain materials to build a house. For example the materials you will need depends on the area where you are building.

I've learned that some foundations are not dependable to build a house on. Things like sinkholes, mudflows and landslides can ruin the foundations to make them not dependable. Under certain foundations there are faults which are two plates and if the two plates move they can cause an earthquake. So if you are planning on building a house you want to make sure you know what kind of foundation you are building on.

We started an experiment in class on how to create a stronger material. I did the experiment with three other people. In our experiment we put toothpicks inside Plaster of Paris to make the Plaster of Paris stronger. The toothpicks did make it stronger but the results from the whole class showed that paperclips made Plaster of Paris the strongest.

Measuring Work; What I Learned... I learned alot of things from doing the experiment about measuring work. I learned how many joules of work and power I can do and I also learned how to convert things into newtons. I had to learn how to convert things into newtons so I could find out exactly how many joules of power and work I did.

This investigation was alot esaier for me to do because I did it by myself. I like to work by myself on certain things.
