Heather's Global Science Website

Science is something we all need to know and understand to get through our daily lives. We use science to figure out how things work. It is a required class to take to graduate from high school. It may be boring, but it's a good thing to know in the future.

This semester we're going to study-- What is science? Geology of California, matter, atoms & the periodic table, heat and waves.

THINGS I'VE LEARNED IN GLOBAL SCIENCE...

Introduction to Science--we reviewed basic science concepts and safety procedures. We measured different solids and liquids. We reviewed mass and volume. We also did a safety lab.

Geology of California--The Geology of unit was kind of fun. I learned about the hazards and natural resources in California. My partner and I planned a journey through C.A. We listed all the resources and hazards we passed. We also drew them on our map. So far this has been the most interesting unit.

Matter, Atoms, And The Periodic Table: We learned about the elements. We learned how to figure out atomic mass also. Our project was to pretend to be Dimitri Mendeleev and write an autobiography about ourselves. We also had to choose an atom to study and present to our class as a commercial. I chose helium, because it had the least amount of work to do.

The REVISED Introduction to Science was the easiest unit weve done so far. The experiments were fun. The "Plastic Wrap lab" was interesting because it was ongoing for three weeks. My hypotheses was that "XXXXXX" brand of plastic wrap would do the best job holding in moisture. We discovered that Iris brand plastic wrap held in the most moisture. The "Chicken Soup lab" was cool also. We were trying to figure out if there are microorganisms in the air. My hypotheses: "xxxxx". We concluded that there are microorganisms in the air because the soup that was left uncovered grew mold.
