What I think about science

Science is a class where I learn about the world I live in, working as a group with each other, helping others and how to conduct experiments safely.

This year in the 1st semester in science class I will study the Geology of California, heat, temperature & energy, structure of matter, waves & wave properties, and do a project on the home of the future.

Then in the 2nd semester I'll study electricity & magnetism, matter, atoms & the periodic table, motion, force & work, using natural resources, and do a project on a vehicle of the future. Every day I write in my Science Log to keep track of what I have to do and what Ive already done.

Things I've learned...

Orientation to Global Science--This credit period I learned that air has microorganisms in it, which brand plastic wrap works the best, and how to type up science reports.

Revised Introduction to Science-in this module of study, I learned about, life, nature, measuring, and testing out the experiments.

I also did an experiment on chicken soup and on types of plastic wrap. In the chicken soup experiment we were testing to find the answer to the question "Are microorganishm present in the air?" Our hypotheses: XXXXXXXXX. My group and I put chicken soup in 2 of test tubes and distilled water in the 2 other tubes. We boiled the tubes for 15 minutes to steralize them. Then we closed two tubes with cotton balls and left two open to the air. We let them sit for 1 week. This was the condition of the tubes at the end of the week: a) chicken soup tube open to the air--XXXXXXXXXXXXX, b)closed tube with chicken soup--XXXXXXXXXXXXXX, c) distilled water tube open to the air--XXXXXXXXXXx, d) closed distilled water tube--XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Our conclusion--XXXXXXXXXXX.

For the plastic wrap experiment I had to make a guess on which wrap would keep in the moisture the best. I chose Reynolds Blue because I thought it would keep in the moisture the best. . The materials that I used for the experiment were 3 brands of plastic wrap and a wet paper towel which was the control. I had to do a procedure and analyze it. It took me three weeks to finish the experiment. Conclusion--my prediction was right. Reynolds Blue did the best job keeping in moisture.
