WITH BILL MARKEN 12/27/01

Here are 20 Questions with the hottest fireman on the block...Fire Marshall Bill!  These were also recorded on a mini tape just like Mike O's questions were.  Enjoy.

1.  You said this past season that you had a night class on Thursday and couldn't play.  Is this really true.....what were you really doing?

Yes it was true.  School comes first, sports second.

2.  When were you first introduced to the team and what did you think?

A few years ago.  I heard Casey was organizing a softball team so basically I was just going to fill in if they needed a body.  If you need someone I would be available.

3.  What past baseball experience do you have?

Well I played baseball as a youth on the Village Green in Dixboro.  The big deal was trying to hit the ball over the fence in center field.  If you hit it into the tree it was just as good because if it hit a branch it would still be a homerun.  I was a teen ager before I could hit it that far.

4.  On a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being a heart attack victim and 10 being on fire,
rate the following ball players:

Mark McGwire=
Mark McGwire is an 8.
Barry Bonds=
6, I don't like his personality
Kirk Gibson=
he was an 8, McGwire is probably a 9 then....I give Gibson an 8 for his aggresive style of play
Matt Marken=
honestly?  probably a 4
Don=
Don who?

5.  You're currently the only player to hold the Substitute Player Award spanning the years of fall 1999 to summer 2001.  What's your key to success?

Staying healthy.  Being able to go out onto the field whenever called upon.

6.  What do you remember about the following years:

1951=
Nothing
1971= A very good year.  I moved from my house to an apartment and I got a full time job with the FBI in Detroit.
1978=  Doesn't ring a bell.  My first son was born.
1986=  I'd been on the fire dept. 3 years
2001=  Attack on the world trade center and pentagon.  The start of a new milenium.

7.  Finish these sentences:

The best thing about our website is
I don't know, I've never seen it.
Sometimes when no one is watching I
geez I don't know
Driving a firetruck is like
getting away with something because you can drive fast and through lights and you don't get any tickets.
Peetage will be successful if our players would
be more consistent
If I had one wish I would wish for
more upper body strength so I could hit the ball out of the park.

8.  You've been a Fire Fighter for nearly 20 years now and you've also been cleaning and repairing chimmnys for quite some time.  Tell us one odd story about something that happened to you?

One of my first fires, I went in to put out the fire and a few of us went in and we were going to ventelate and I went to the back door and I tripped over something in the hallway, I thought it was a body.  It ended up being their dog.  The dog died in the house and we had to pull it outside.  But I hit and I was thinking "Oh no someone is laying on the floor" but it was just a dog.

9.  How did you earn the nickname "Slayer"?

How did you hear about that?  You told me.  This guy in high school called me that when I was on Ann Arbor Huron High's hockey team.  His name was Mark Leslie.  I don't know how he came up with it.  He didn't even go to Huron High, he went to Pioneer High, but we were in church together in the youth group.  He grew up in Dixboro.

10. What are your 3 favorite things about being on the team?

Everybody seems to have a good time.  It's fun to get out there and play.  It's nice to see some of the dad's out there with the kids.

11.  Who is your favorite former Peatage player? (Ex: Lorne, Kyle, Scott,
Jeff, Gary, Ritz, Jimmy "airwolf" Moore, Craig, Mark (Scott Krimm's brother in law))

Scott Krimm? You know who Scott Krimm is dad.  Are you sure. YES!  He's the father of the brothers of destruction. Oh oh.  Former....I don't know.  I do remember Jimmy but...haha favorite.

12.  Did you know that your son Matt made you an email address which is [email protected], and what do you think about that?

I did not know about that and I could care less about that.

13.  Has Bill Marken ever:

Been on fire=
On the ice only and just some singed hair
Hit for the cycle=
No
Talked back to Carl=
No
Told Matt about his long lost sister=
That's still a secret.
Found a dead monkey stuck in a chimmny=
No, but I found a skeleton of a rat once.
Challenged the O'Neils and Krimms to a street fight=
Not in the near past, not that I remember anyway.  I could have been too drunk to remember.

14.  Tell us one thing about yourself that the team doesn't already know.

Someone in high school called me "semi-country bumpkin."  In other words I wasn't a country bumkin.  It's not like I was from the country just semi from the country since Dixboro was just out of town a ways.

15.  If you could be Carl for a day, what would you do with yourself and to others?

What would I do for a day?  I would try to pick up young chicks.

16.  Word association. Mention the first thing that comes to you when you
hear:

The fire alarm=
Location
Jimmy Moore=
Goofball
Drums=
Ringo Starr
Alan's dad=
Whos's Alan's dad?  Oh Alan's dad.  Alan the 1st. Alan Brandimeil the first.  No wait, his grandfather was the first.  His Dad was Alan Brandeimel the 2nd.  So he's Alan Brandimeil the 3rd and we call his son cubed because he's the 4th, the cheifs son.  So the Alan I know is number 4....I did not know that.
This is Sergent Schmidt, are you the parent or guardian of Timothy Paul Marken=
WHAT NOW?

17.  What are your plans in the off season this winter?

Train to stay physically fit and do my off-season on ice conditioning program.

18.  Is there any reason why the A-team theme plays when people view your player profile on the website?

Maybe it's because of all that gold I wear around my neck.

19. Is your pre-game ritual really having a BM?

Haha.  Well you don't want to have to take a crap when you're sitting on the bench.  Haha...Number 2.  Yeah you don't want to go in with a full load.  Ok, and finally.  It makes you run faster if you don't have to go!  That's enough

20. Did you enjoy your 20 questions Bill Marken? (Also use this space to say anything you want or plug your stuff/website/merchandise.

Yes.  But I don't want to do it again.  What if the crowd asks for a rewind, another 20 Questions with Bill Marken?  No.  You're stubborn old man aren't you?  HAHA.  I'm going to go record mom snoring so be quiet.
