"Robbing Thief"

A young lady rogue dwelt once in a deep woods, robbing those foolish enough to venture into her territory.  Since the area was populated by quite a rich variety of nobles, she did very well for herself, indeed.

One day, a small convoy was progressing through her woods.  A company of knights were guarding a small chest.  The knights were armed to the hilt, looking very dangerous.  The rogue's interest was peaked.  There must be something of tremendous value indeed in that small chest to warrant such an impressive escort.

Knowing she was no match for such a large number of knights, the rogue decided instead to tail the convoy and steal the goods at its destination.  She followed her bounty to a small keep, which was surrounded by impressive, if unkempt, gardens.

The knights and small chest dissappeared into the keep.  The rouge waited and studied the keep, to determine what she was up against.  The keep was quite well maintained, but only lightly guarded.  Just one guard at the gate, and none visible through the parapets.

Eventually some of the knights from the convoy emerged from the keep and headed back up the road to the woods.  This was her chance, the guard was surely much less now.  The rogue snuck in through the front door, behind the one guard who wasn't very good at his job.

The main hall was extremely opulent.  Tapestries, fine furnitures with golden inlay... the master of this keep must be very very wealthy, indeed!  Such extreme opulence, yet no guards!  The rogue shrugged, and stole her way into the shadows of the corridor to the deeps of the keep.

The corridor had but one guard patrolling it, half-asleep and not very keen at his work.  The rogue slipped by with ease.  If all the guards were like this one, that treasure valued more than all the finery in the main hall was as good as hers!  In the room beyond, the rogue found yet more opulence, but no sign of the chest.

This room was clearly the bedchambers, lined with finery all around, even a small exquisite bed for the master of the keep's pet floppy, which slept soundly on a pillow that surely contained an entire flock's worth of down.

Spying about, the rogue decided upon the best way to go for the prize she sought, that small chest that warranted such close guard.  Sneaking past more sonambulating guards, the rogue soon found the nook that contained the prize she sought.

A small light shone through a crack in the ceiling of the nook, shining a divine radiance upon the chest, which was flanked by two guards, alert and very wary.  But the rogue was intent on the wealth contained within that chest, and had guile to spare.  A smoke bomb provided all the cover she needed to steal away with the small chest.

As she rushed out of the keep, the alarm sounded, and the formerly sleepy guards proved more of an obstacle to her escape with that small chest.  But this rogue lived by thievery, she knew how to escape.  She rushed past the gilded furniture, toppling it in her wake to trip up pursuers.  The fine tapestries were likewise felled from their perches with well-flung soori, blinding any guards hapless enough to be under the falling fabric.

The rogue made good her escape without confrontation.  She headed back to the deep of her woods, taking care to not be followed, before she opened her bounty.  Her eyes lit up at the golden glow emanating from the small chest as she cracked the lid.

The rogue's expression quickly changed to one of horror as her jaw dropped agape as she spyed the contents of the chest.  The writing on the inside of the lid that described the contents:  Alchemist Al's Finest Floppy Feed!

The rogue laughed a mad laugh as she pawed at the milled grains with her hands... The golden seed flowed through her hand as she laughed in disbelief.  She has passed up all that unguarded wealth for this...?  At least she had stolen a lesson of great value during her trip to that keep:

Every person values different things.
