Once there was a mighty and powerful warrior. He owed much of his success to his massive, imposing armor and sharp and heavy sword. This brave knight have never known defeat, and never needed aid to vanquish his foes. He prided himself on this point. He needed no help to vanquish the minions of darkness.
During his travels, this warrior came across a small town. The town was busting with activity, but not in a good way. Goblins were raiding the town! The townsfolk were doing their best to try to fend off the goblins, but their rakes and sticks were not every effective.. at all.
The Warrior leapt into battle, shouting his fearsome battle cry at the stunned Goblin horde. His mighty, oversized Kindjal cleaved goblins in half as the warrior tromped through the goblin ranks, his massive armor deflecting all the goblins' best blows. The townsfolk tried to rush to the warrior, but he boomed his battle voice at them, ordering them to stand down, he needed no aid from peasant rabble.
Indeed, this warrior laid waste to most of the goblin horde, leaving only a handful of Goblins, whimpering as they fled back to whence they came. The Warrior raised the visor of his mighty helmet and approached the crowd of stunned townsfolk. He told them their town was now safe, thanks to his mighty prowess.
One of the townsfolk, apparently the Mayor, suddenly snapped from his stupor and started to yell at the Warrior. The Goblins, it seems, always raided the town. They only put up a minimal defense so as not to dishonor the goblins. If the Goblins did not return with their booty and a good fight having been fought, the powerful Carnun Orc that lead them would come and raze their village to the ground!
The Warrior smiled shyly for a moment, but told the townsfolk not to worry, his blade and armor alone were more than a match for any Carnun Orc. The people murmured for a while, but eventually agreed. This night, they would celebrate their impending freedom! The Warrior would stay in the finest room of the local Inn and on the morrow, when the Orc came, his mighty power would either slay the beast or sate its rage. Either way, it was cause to celebrate!
The party lasted long into the night, and much Ale was served. The Warrior had to have several people carry him to his room at the end. They helped him out of his armor and laid him in his comfortable bed, closing the door behind them as they left. When the sun rose the next day, the Warrior woke with quite a headache. But he had his duty to perform, no mere headache would stop him. In a fog, he donned his armor and lifted his mighty and powerful blade, and made for the door.
..The door with the handle too small to work with his armored hands.
The Warrior fumbled with the latch for a short while, then started banging on the door for someone to come let him out. But nobody came.
A quick look out the window and he saw the entire town was already out in the streets, eagerly awaiting the coming battle. The Warrior started to pound harder on the door, trying to knock it from its hinges. But the door was very solid. "Of course," thought the warrior, "This must be their refuge for the women and children when the Goblins come."
Desperate, the Warrior started to charge at the door. The mighty oak door merely bounced him off. With all his strength, the warrior drew a deep breath, backed up as far as he could, and ran full force at the door!
The next thing the Warrior knew, he was staring up at the ceiling... In his foggy mental state, he thought he saw an faerie looking down upon him, giggling. Upon concentrating a bit more, the Warrior realized it was no faerie, but a small girl.
The Warrior sat up with a start and grabbed the little girl by her shoulders. With a voice of disbelief, he asked how she got in, to which the little girl laughed, and pointed at the open door. The small child smiled broadly and asked the mighty Warrior if he needed some help.
A valuable lesson dawned then upon this Warrior. He laughed, started to get up, and told the child, that, yes, indeed...
Even the mightiest of heroes
needs a little help now and then.
