"The Fate of Floppies"

Rarity always makes things valuable.  The rarer something is, the more people covet it.  So it is with one humble creature of the jungle.  The rare Golden Floppy.  Highly sought after, these poor buy cute beasts are bludgeoned into unconsciousness with sticks!  More and more... Their numbers dwindle in the wild.  A bleak future for such a fuzzy and lovable creature.

A group of concerned people saw the problem in this.  The already rare floppy would be bludgeoned into extinction!  Some of the group were shocked that their golden bunny slippers would become a thing of the past.  Others worried about the balance of nature in Temuair, surely the Golden Floppy served some greater purpose than to test the quality of Callough's sticks.  A plan was formed to try to save this cuddly floppy.  The group, calling themselves Coinean Champions, captured some golden floppies and started to let them do what floppies do best.. breed.

They selectively bred for size.  The thought was a larger floppy would be able to defend itself against the hordes of stick bearing thrashers.  This program continued for some time, with little progress.  Those who were behind the cause for profit alone did not mind; they had their own supply of countless reams of golden fur.  But others were not so happy.  While they kept a few floppies alive in captivity, out in the jungle they were becoming rarer and rarer.

Soon, a splinter group formed, thinking it hypocrisy to keep floppies captive like that.  They were trying to let the floppy live free in the wild, free from fear and free from sticks.  The harvesting of floppies after they were no longer viable breeding stock was also abhorrent to them.

One of the splinter group had acquired something very valuable.  A small vial of water, bartered from a pirate.  The pirate said it was a 'source of great power' they had found deep in some sewer.  Just what the downtrodden golden floppies needed: Power. The splinter group slipped the vial into the captive floppies' water.  They thought sure this would safeguard the future of golden floppies in Temuair for all time.

Alas, the nature of the magic in that water is Dark.  And the Dark, as all Aislings know too well, corrupts.  The floppies grew all right... A little too much.  Their golden fur paled to the standard white of the first floppies.  They grew to an enormous size, equal to that of an Aisling, if not a bit more.

The Floppy lovers were shocked, at first.  But they reasoned that these giant vorpal floppies would surely help protect their smaller brethren when let loose back in the wild.  And those interested solely in gold saw no more than a giant pile of gold, in fur form.

But the floppies' size wasn't all that had increased.  So had their appetite.. And their power.  The dark water had created a truly monstrous monster.  The giant white floppies, not knowing conscience, slaughtered all the floppy lovers in the room.  Knocking out a wall, they headed out into the world.

Aislings all over Temuair were alerted to this problem.  But even the strongest of masters had great difficulty in subduing these vorpal beasts.  The pirates' secret had imbued massive strength into the mega floppies, they could destroy even a master Aisling with but one blow.  Eventually, though, the Aislings prevailed.  Deochs of battle against the dark has taught Aislings much in how to deal with Chadul's little tricks.

The giant floppies were slain, and Aislings all over Temuair learned to respect the floppies once again.  Floppies were allowed to run free in the wild once more, tormented by sticks only on rare occasion.  As for those Floppy lovers who remained of the group?  They too learned a valuable lesson:

  Bigger is not always better.
