Its not a deli like those you get in Australia. Its a nice place to hang out with friends and loved ones. This place is for the old, young, health conscious, adventurous and most importantly for those who love to have fruits in their food! Their soups are usually cooked with a twist as they have fruits in them. We particularly like the mushroom and banana soup. However, they have a different soup daily so do check with their staff.
Their main courses of fishpaya,Porkets and spaghetti Kong pao are worth to try. All prepared fresh daily, you will not be disappointed. If you are only in for a drink or dessert, you should try their mango and coconut springs with jelly or their fresh strawberry juice. Their fruit jewels are also worth to mention. Most importantly, you should always try to complete your dinner with their fruit fondue! Fresh fruits dipped with thick warm chocolate will leave you in fruit heaven.

The walkway illuminated on the sides gives you the special feeling that you are sashaying on a catwalk. This feeling continues until you are greeted by the friendly waitress at the end of the walkway and the aromatic, non greasy scent of shanghainese cuisine jolts you back to reality. This is Hu Cui. Some say they are not an authentic shanghainese restaurant but the food is worthy of praise. For starters, try the sauted bamboo shoots and crispy eel. The eel is fried till crispy and the bamboo shoots served are young and juicy. Though a tad salty, they are still addictive. Another must try is the boiled chicken soup with Hunan ham and served with wantons. Before you scoff at the non exotic soup, try it. The soup is tasty and the wantons have thin translucent skins and are bursting with meat and veg. definitely out of this world Must-try main courses include: gan pian si ji dou - Many restaurants serve this vegetable dish but few can do it like Hu Cui. The Veg is crispy and its juiciness is still retained. long xu -
Not a dish on the menu. Please ask staff. The flesh of the soon hock is shredded and cooked with mei cai. The bones are removed so adults and children who are not apt at eating fish with bones, will love it.

Nice and very relaxing place
tucked away in Mohamed Ali lane near Chinatown. They specialise in their charcoal grilled mains and I would recommend their chicken and seafood especially. Presented with different dipping sauces that add a little excitement to the food. Their sets are very much worth it as you would leave the place feeling so full! Do remember to try their lovely garlic rice. You do pay a little more, but trust me, it is lovely! The sets also end with desert, which is ice-cream sorbet. Very refreshing after the meal. Their minty lime sorbet leaves a refreshing taste in your mouth! Their soft shell crab handroll is really good, but it really depends. Sometimes, it can be out for too long, and doesn't taste as good as it really is. So if you really want to try it, ask the waitresses to get it warm and hot. |
