                              SKIN

If you are at all like me, years of fun and play can leave your doll's skin less than fresh and clean. To clean the face, arms, neck, and legs of your American Girl doll, follow these simple instructions:

1.) Pull the hair out of the doll's face with a scrunchie         and lay her flat on her back.
2.) Get a cup of warm water and dampen a cotton wash     towel in it.
3.) Dab a little bit of baking soda (the same product used     in the cleaning agent sold by Pleasant Co.) on the                damp wash towel and clean the skin surface in a
circular motion (this prevents that ultra tiny possibility           of scratching).
4.) When finished, pat skin with clean, dry towel.
And waah-laaah! A bright face for your bright doll!
                                              HAIR
I would say the single biggest issue we have with our dolls is frizzy hair... agreed??!! Remember- no matter what, NEVER put any shampoo, hair spray, or gel in your doll's hair. For dolls with textured hair, specifically Addy, you are best off leaving her hair in the hair net she comes with or taking her to a doll hospital/salon (such as the one at AG Place, Chicago). Here are some suggestions for the other dolls:

1.) Mist your dolls hair with fresh water.
2.) Comb your doll's hair with either your own tooth       comb or a specifically designed doll brush. Do NOT use a bristle brush- it just causes MORE frizzies!
3.) Comb your doll's hair starting at the bottom and         working your way up. This way you won't pull out hair and create more knots. TIP: This is true for your hair too!
BODY MARKS                                I know many people (see:my friend Lauren) who once thought giving their dolls a marker "tattoo" was a cool idea. Not very wise. My only suggestion is to try OXYCLEAN (a product now available at many grocery type stores) and dab it on the cloth body. Many doll hospitals also offer cleaning surfaces that use special washes... don't try to do it yourself at home! If nothing else works and the marks really bother you, the AG company can replace bodies for a fair sum of money.
Last but not least, remember that not all imperfections need to be removed: marks and bruises stand as a testimony to your years of fun and play with your doll. They stand as markers for fun memories and happy times. When my dog was a puppy, she nibbled on the hand of my sister's beloved Molly doll. A few years ago, we took Molly to the AG Place Store, but my sister decided to keep the hand in its slightly flawed shape- now she'll never forget her Molly adventures or my puppy dog's mischevious ways!
