| We started raising goats when I was about 1 or 2 (1989) but they were just ordinary brier goats we had had them about 6 or 7 years when dogs got into our pasture while we were gone. The goats that were ok when we got home we sold and forgot all about. So then when I was in 8th grade me and my mom decided we wanted more goats and my dad finally agreed. We bought small briar goats thinking they were pygmy's but they wern't. So the next year I was in high school and had signed up for a few agricultural classes and the ag. teachers recruited me to show pigs. I began showing and didnt win anything but I am still extremely happy that I showed them for 2 years or I would have never saw my first pygmy goats. I was walking around at the Georgia State Fair looking for some of my friends and went to a barn that I thought had more show pigs in it but it had pygmy goats. I walked around looking at them and talked to everyone that would talk but most people were busy unloading there goats. I finally found someone who wasnt to busy Tony Manis I talked to him for along time and my mom did to. I finally told her that if she would buy me some pygmy goats I would never show a pig again. She agreed and about a month after the show we had bought our first few. I finally got my dad to buy me a show buck from Tony Manis. A few moths after that I got a show doe from Sue Kerous and another from Paula Arnold. All three of them have excellent pygmy goats. I also won the State Specialty Animal Production Profiency in FFA. I am now a National Finalist. I am one of four left in the competition. |
