Chapter 1
You know what sucks about starting a new school year in Korea is? It’s that you’re separated into two different buildings* if you decide to take one fork in the road, and your friend decides to take the other fork. The other crappy thing is that even if you and your friends take the same road, the probability of getting placed in the same classroom is slim- unless you’re really lucky.
Let’s say I wasn’t one of those lucky few who got placed in the same class. Lucky me, right?
Now, do you know what the double most crappy thing is?
It’s not getting your new seat and possibly having to sit next to a nose picking snot swallower.
The double most crappy thing is having no one to eat lunch with. Okay, think about my situation. I’m in a classroom with forty kids who don’t know each other, my seat buddy is a pretty good looking guy, the atmosphere is so thick that you could make invisible butter with it…and its lunchtime.
Some brave kids might turn to their desk partner or some girl or guy sitting behind them, and asked them to eat lunch, but most of the time they're waiting for someone to do it first before they'll get the nerve to ask. So after watching one particular girl ask her desk partner to eat lunch, I gathered my courage and was about to ask my own desk partner when his head clunked down on the desk with a loud…well…clunk and started to snore softly…
Okay, so much for that.
Helplessly, I opened the lid of my lunch container and felt my mouth start to water at the plain sight of rice. Yes, I was that hungry.
I was about to reach for my tea when I realized that there was no tea. What the? I could have sworn I brought it today. Quickly I bent over to grab my tea out of my bag and when I’d straightened up with my tea in hand, I saw my desk partner awake from his minute long nap eating my lunch. That’s right, my lunch. This kid that I just met today was eating my lunch.
“What do you think you’re doing.”
He looked up at me and his eyes grew wide at seeing the barley tea in my hand, “I’m kind of hungry. Ooh, is that barley tea? I love that stuff, if you don’t mind.” He snatched my bottle away from me and took a big gulp of it.
“I actually do mind.” I grabbed my lunch container out of his hands, along with my bottle of tea.
“Come on, we’re going to be partners for the rest of the year.”
“Not that I wanted to be partners with you.”
He gasped as if I’d struck him in the chest and hung his head low, “that hurt you know, but you don’t mind one more bite, do you?” He asked quickly raising his head and grinning.
“You have a pepper stuck in your teeth.”
He shrugged, and snatched my lunch out of my hands taking a large portion of my lunch and placing it into his mouth, “thanks. Some tea would be nice too.”
I stared at this kid who was eating my lunch with my mouth hanging open.
“You want some?” He asked, offering some of my own lunch to me.
“Hey-” I stopped realizing I didn’t know his name and stared at the nametag on his uniform, “Woo Jaeryoong?”
Woo Jaeryoong? That name was vaguely familiar.
“Huh? Hey, Won Mingyul, what are you doing here?” My desk partner (who I will refer as to Jaeryoong from now on) asked, his eyes fixed on a person behind me.
“Woo Jaeryoong, why don’t you go get me some pop from the store across the street? Here’s manwon**, you can keep the change.” A small rustle came from behind me and Jaeryoong got up from his seat to reach for the manwon.
What the hell? This Jaeryoong kid is a kkobong***?
My kkobong desk partner got up from his seat and walked out the room. Curiously, I turned around to look at the guy named ‘Won Mingyul’ behind me and deeply (and quite quickly) fell in love with the sexy god standing in front of me.
“......” He stared down at me, and reaching up to scratch his head, turned to head back towards his classroom, “…damn, he might be a money-obsessed freak but I feel bad for him.” He muttered, leaving the room with some kind of invisible magic dust particles floating behind his back.
He’s so hot.
He’s a god.
I want to worship him.

Chapter 2
As soon as the god named Won Mingyuhl had left I heard a loud familiar voice yelling out my name, curiously I got up from my seat and walked over to the back door and poked my head out curiously into the hallway.
“Biya, Sunhwi, what are you guys doing out of class? Do you guys have lunch time in Lee Gwa too?”
“Yeah. We were on our way to the super in front of school, want to come?” Biya asked, raking her fingers through her short pink hair.
“Lunch is over in a couple minutes for me, I’ll pass.” I stepped out completely into the hallway and yawned, “how do you guys like Lee Gwa?”
Sunhwi shrugged, “we don’t know yet, retard. By the way Suheul, that perm looks awful on you. I told you that you shouldn’t get it. That’s what happens when you don’t listen to me.”
I fingered my short curly hair absentmindedly, did it really look that bad? Damn, I spent like thirty dollars on this perm.
“Hey, Do Sunhwi, shut up, I think it looks fine.”
“Like you would know anything, your pink hair is awful too.”
I could clearly see Biya keeping back from punching my short friend in the face, both Sunhwi and I knew that Biya would never hurt a hair on our heads, so Sunhwi just stuck her tongue out and continued on her way to the super.
“I want to knock that honest little head off her neck.” Biya muttered shoving her hands into pocket, “hey, we came to tell you to meet us in the front of the school later.”
I nodded, waving to Biya and stepped back into the classroom, only to have some guy grab my hands quite abruptly.
“You’re friends with Han Biya? Introduce me, please? Hey! You’re No Suheul! The other girl that hangs out with Do Sunhwi and Han Biya!”
I pulled my hands away, “what do you think about guys getting plastic surgery?”
“What? Guys aren’t supposed to get surgery.”
“Sorry then.”
Why’d I ask about surgery you ask? Well, broken noses don’t completely heal the way it used to look. The first thing Biya does to people is punch them in the face if they do something she doesn’t like. It was quite a miracle I even got to be friends with her.
It was during middle school. I had transferred from Seoul to Suwon and I was placed into the same class as Biya. It was lunch and I had no one to eat with (sounds familiar, huh?) so I asked the kid next to me to eat. But she had her group of friends already, I asked a couple other kids, but they weren’t too keen on inviting me in. Right then, I spotted a girl in the back of the room staring at nothing in particular in front of her. I walked up and asked her to eat but she turned to me and looked at me up and down.
“Why should I eat with you?”
I stared at her, “why not? It doesn’t seem like you have anyone else to eat with. ” (I was pretty brave back then, if you didn’t notice.)
She seemed taken back at my answer and after turning her head to stare at nothing once again, she got up from her seat and walked out the room. Shot down way too many times on the first day of school, I came back to me seat to eat alone when a girl turned around to me.
“Don’t get too close to Han Biya, you do something wrong in front of her and she’ll break your face. I’m surprised she didn’t punch you for bothering her.” The girl turned back around and continued to eat with her friends.
I think the shock of almost having been punched made me who I am today. A freak who’s afraid to ask people to eat lunch. Anyways, it was a couple days later when I was pathetically eating lunch by myself (no kids had asked me still) when a lunch container was dropped in front of my face. Startled, I looked up to see Biya with a spoon in her mouth standing in front of me.
“What are you doing?”
She took the spoon out to answer, “what do you think I’m doing, you asked if you could eat with me.”
“I thought you didn’t want to.”
“You’re right, but then what you said was true, so I just decided to let you eat with me.”
I paused to think, she was the one who came up to me, so technically she’s the one that wants to eat with me. I told her exactly that and was rewarded with a glare. I quickly looked down at my food and shoved a spoonful of rice into my mouth.
“Hey is that jangjorim*?”
“Huh? Yeah, want some?” I pushed my container towards her and she picked up a large piece with her spoon.
“Hey! Turn your fawking heads the other way, what are you staring at?!”
I flinched at her yelling and looked up to see who she was yelling out which turned out to be the whole class. They quickly turned around to finish their lunch.
“What are you doing after school? Let’s hang.”
“I-I don’t know.”
She smirked at me and took another jangjorim from my container, “I’ll be at the front of the school with my friend Sunhwi, don’t be late.”
That’s when my friendship with Biya started, along with Sunhwi’s. I can’t say I exactly liked Sunhwi when I first met her, she seemed completely rude and didn’t kept her mouth shut at times she needed to. But I soon learned that that how Sunhwi was with everyone. The more honest she was, the more she liked you. And seeing how she bombarded me with ‘this is ugly’ and ‘I don’t like your hair like that’ she must have taken quite a big liking in me.
So now, back to the present.
“Then introduce me to Do Sunhwi!”
“How high is your self esteem?”
The guy thought, “I don’t know, not to high I don’t think.”
“Sorry then.”
“What are you two doing right in front of the door, I don’t have room to walk in.”
Woo Jaeryoong’s voice came from behind me and I turned around, “what are you saying? You have so much room to walk- hey! Are you calling me fat?”
He shrugged and sat down in his seat next to my desk, I quickly ran over and sat down next to him.
“Hey, who’s that guy earlier?”
“Who.”
“that Mingyuhl guy.”
“Oh, some rich bastard.”
“You’re his kkobong, huh?”
Woo Jaeryoong let out a bitter smile and shrugged, “I guess you can call it that. It pays though.”
“What?”
“Nothing. Shut up, I’m going to sleep.”
That was the end of our conversation for the day.
He continued to sleep until the end of the day and after pondering whether to wake him or to leave him, I decided that I’d just leave him and go meet my friends.
“Come on Suheul! Let’s get your hair redone.” Was Sunhwi’s greeting when she saw me.
“…I tried talking her out of it.”
“I like my hair as it is now, though.”
“I don’t.” Sunhwi grinned her cute little smile and grabbed my hand, “let’s go. I’ll pay for you, I wanted to dye my hair back to black anyways.”
The three of us headed towards this salon that Sunhwi said was the ’best ever’ and I knew right as soon as I stepped in, the salon was different from the ones I usually went to. All the hair ‘designers,’ they were called here not ‘stylists,’ greeted Sunhwi with a bright smile and sat her down in a chair.
“Unnie, can you un-perm her hair? That only takes like an hour right?”
So here I was, forced into a chair, having my thirty dollar perm taken out when Sunhwi opened her mouth to ask me a question.
“Who’s your desk partner, Suheul?”
“Huh? It’s some guy named Woo Jaeryoong. What about you?”
“Woo Jaeryoong? I’ve heard that name before.” Biya called from her seat on the sofa.
“Yeah, me too. My desk partner is this guy named Eun Ryehwan.” Sunhwi frowned, “I don’t like him.”
“Sunhwi did you see all the girls? They were so damn jealous of you.” Biya grinned and flipping through a magazine.
Do Sunhwi scowled and shook her head lightly as if saying she couldn’t understand the girls that were staring at the guy named Eun Ryehwan. The hour came around slowly enough and my hair was re-straightened while Sunhwi’s was freshly dyed.
“I’m getting hungry.” Biya muttered, taking out a cigarette from her pocket and placing it into her mouth, “let’s go to Blue Mint. Sunhwi, you pay.”
Sunhwi nodded, “where have I heard the name Woo Jaeryoong? It’s just itching to get out. Anyways, Suheul, your hair is so much better now.”
It was only a couple minutes later when we reached the café, we stepped into the blue lighted café and breathed in the fresh smell of tea and cakes.
“Oh, I remember who he is!” Sunhwi clapped her hands, “he’s that guy. Who went out with that one girl Gun Haejoo.”
“Who’s that?”
“You know that one girl in our first year class. She liked Woo Jaeryoong so she gave him money to go out with her.”
“What kind of bastard does that?” Biya asked playing with a packet of salt and pouring it onto her napkin.
“This bastard.”
All three of our heads turned up to look at the person who’d so rudely interrupted our conversation.

Chapter 3
There was Woo Jaeryoong dressed in maybe the hottest and ugliest looking outfit I’d ever seen. Torn black and white checkered slacks covered him waist down with his feet covered in two black shoes. Around his waist was a brown belt that hung loosely with a thick silver chain linking the wallet in his back pocket to the front. The upper part of his body was covered with a thin looking brown sweater with an ugly flower print scarf tied around his neck, and dangling from beneath the scarf was a rainbow colored necklace with thick beads. Lastly, his ears dangled two differently shaped earrings; a star and a moon.
In his hand a small notepad.
“What’s wrong with going out with a girl for money?”
“Who the hell are you?” Biya asked continuing to play with her salt.
“Hey! You’re Woo Jaeryoong!” Sunhwi explained excitedly, “that’s the ugliest outfit I’ve ever seen! Do you work here? You shouldn’t dress like that, you’ll chase away your customers.”
God, Sunhwi, shut up before I’m forced to shove my fist down your throat.
“What’s it matter if I go out with a girl for money?” He asked nonchalantly scratching the top of his head with the pen in his left hand, “so are you guys ready, or are you guys going to continue talking trash about me.”
“Did you really almost die picking up ten dollars from the street when cars were passing?” Sunhwi asked, “that’s possibly the stupidest thing to do.”
I could see Woo Jaeryoong becoming impatient with Sunhwi’s consistent jabbering, “look are you going to order any time today?”
“You’re rude. Don’t you know that you should be more hospitable towards your customers?” Sunhwi huffed and ordered all of our food, “bring it in less than five minutes and I’ll give you a big tip.”
What can I say about someone who almost died picking up money from the ground during a green light? Woo Jaeryoong sped out of our sight and into the backroom to get our orders. Just as he disappeared, the door chimed and a group of teenagers entered.
Oh my damn goodness!
Can it be?
It’s that sexy god!
Won Mingyuhl!
“Hey, you guys, isn’t he so hot?” I whispered to both Biya and Sunhwi still glancing over at Won Mingyuhl.
Sunhwi turned around to see who I was talking about and immediately made a face, “argh, that’s him.”
“You know him?”
“Yeah, he’s Sunhwi’s desk partner.”
“I thought you said your partner was some guy named Eun something.”
“Yeah, he is.” Sunhwi said turning back around, “ugh, I hate that guy and I don’t even know him. He thinks he’s all cool cause he’s good looking.”
“I’m talking about the other one.” I said, my eyes averting to the two girl’s they’d come with. Wait! Are those four in a meeting? No! It can’t be, he’s supposed to be mine!
“Oh, the skinny anorexic looking one?” Biya asked quite loudly, pouring another pile of salt into her pile.
The four heads turned in our direction and I quickly turned red as my god’s eyes rested on me. Sunhwi just huffed and turned around, “what’s taking him so long, it’s been like four minutes already.”
As soon as she finished talking, there was a large clanking as Woo Jaeryoong came out holding three plates of cakes and three different glasses of drinks. His face looked kind of flushed as he set the food down in front of us. Sunhwi gave a nod of approve and gave him his tip.
“Woo Jaeryoong, didn’t you hear us come in?” One of the girls asked, I glanced up for a second and caught sight of the girl’s face.
“I was busy getting their order. Haha, I earned three dollar tip.” He proudly showed the girl his three crumpled bills.
“Sounds like you, Woo Jaeryoong, doing anything for money.” The girl sighed and turned around to glare at us, “money’s not that great, think about your pride once in a while.”
I continued to listen to their conversation while taking careful bites of my cake. Just in case Mingyuhl was watching.
“My pretty best friend Kwon Miyool, checking up on me like always.” I got the feeling he was patting her on the head, “you can act as my pride for me, since I don’t have any.”
“You two are disgusting, why don’t you two just go the hell out?” This time a harsher deeper feminine voice.
“That’d be like you going out with Miyool.” Mingyuhl laughed and took a gulp of his water, “get me some coke. Hey Woo Jaeryoong, I’m meeting this girl tomorrow, so go make up some excuse to my teacher for me that I don’t get caught. I’ll give you a bonus if you do well.”
He is so hot. Look how demanding he is, look how sexy he is, he’s so god-like.
“Hey, Won Mingyuhl, who the hell do you think you are? What is Jaeryoong? You’re slave?” The girl that Jaeryoong had asked to be his pride asked Won Mingyuhl.
From what I could tell, they were best friends. You know that one saying? More than friends but less than lovers? Yeah, that’s what they seemed to be.
“Hey, Jaeryoong, can you go get me some more water?” The kid named Ryehwan asked, finally opening his mouth.
The guy that Sunhwi seemed to hate with a raging passion seemed to be almost better looking than my god, but what can I do? My heart already belongs to the hot bastard.
“Suheul, are you done?” Sunhwi asked as her and Biya got ready to leave, “hey, can we get our bill?”
“Hold on a second, can’t you see he’s getting Ryehwan something?” The Miyool girl demanded.
“What’s it to you whether I call him out now or later.”
“It’s called patience and courtesy. Something that you don’t seem to have.”
“What’d you just say?”
I wanted to stick up for Sunhwi, but as much as this Miyool was pissing me off, I couldn’t say anything to back up my friend because I knew that the Miyool girl was right. Biya seemed to know this as well, so instead of sticking up for Sunhwi like she’d usually do, Biya just placed a hand on Sunhwi’s shoulder to calm her down.
“Sunhwi, come on, just calm down. Nothing bad ever came from waiting.” I said patting her on the shoulder. Usually I could have cared less about anyone, but right now, Won Mingyuhl was looking at me. So I have to be two faced, it’s not like I can help it.
Woo Jaeryoong appeared a couple minutes later with a dirty rag in his hand and a glass of coke, “sorry Ryehwan, my manager asked me to clean a little. Hey shortie, what are you looking so angry for?” He asked turning to Sunhwi.
“Where’s the bill?”
“Oh, right. Hold a sec.” Woo Jaeryoong walked over to the cash register and punched in a couple numbers, “your total will be fifteen dollars.”
Sunhwi handed him a twenty and stomped out of the café, thank god all rich only childs aren’t like her. On the way out, Kwon Miyool grabbed Biya’s wrist and stopped her abruptly.
“Hey, go train your friend to be human. No one likes a spoiled bi.tch.”
“Funny, I kind of do.” Biya said, slapping Kwon Miyool’s hand away from her wrist, “don’t say anything about my friend needing training. From what I see, you’re the one who needs to give that guy an extra dollar or two to keep him alive and breathing.”
“What’d you say?” Kwon Miyool asked standing up and facing Biya angrily.
Please, don’t shove Biya, don’t shove Biya, I’m begging you don’t shove her.
Stupidly, the Miyool girl shoved Biya’s shoulder, and I couldn’t do anything but slap her mentally in the head for being so stupid. The fire that always seemed to light in Biya’s eyes if someone she didn’t like touched her started once again and I quickly tried to pull her out of the café.
“You just shoved me, huh?”
Sensing danger, the other girl next to Kwon Miyool stood up, “yeah she did, what are you going to do about it?”
“What am I going to do about it?” Biya let out a grin, “first I’m going to punch you in the face if you don‘t shut up, then I’m going punch your friend in the face. So if you don’t want your nose broken, why don’t you get out of the way?”
“Whoa, why don’t you just leave?” Woo Jaeryoong asked quickly shielding Miyool from Biya as he too sensed that the atmosphere was becoming to get very tense.
“You want yours broken too?” Biya asked shaking her bangs away from her face, Biya made a step towards them menacingly. I tell you she’s quite good at that, standing at a height of around 5’8 which is pretty damn tall for a girl her age in Korea.
Kwon Miyool friend let out a small snort, “you’re all talk, come on, I dare you to punch me.”
It all happened in slow motion after that.
Biya’s attention sloooooooooooooowly turned to the other girl, while the other girl let out a slooooooooooooooooow snort. I raised my hands sloooooooooooowly to stop her while Won Mingyuhl (my god) let out a sloooooooooooooooow smirk and sloooowly leaned back in the cushioned seat to watch the fight. Biya’s fist struck the girl in the cheek in sloooooooow motion, and after meeting contact with Biya’s hard-as-rock fist, the girl’s nose vessel popped and slooooooooooowly blood splashed all over the table.
After the blood came out, everything seemed to come back to normal time. Sunhwi came in after realizing we weren’t out there with her and immediately screamed at seeing the other girl get slammed into the wall.
“What? I’m all talk?” Biya let out another grin, “you dare me to punch you?” Biya’s left fist contacted the girl on the other side of her face.
“Hey, don’t you think that’s enough?” Woo Jaeryoong asked leaving Kwon Miyool’s side and trying to pry Biya off the girl.
“Don’t touch me, or you’re next.”
“You should be embarrassed, guys I understand, but girls?”
Biya’s fist stopped in the air at hearing Woo Jaeryoong. Turning around, the girl forgotten, she started walking towards Woo Jaeryoong, “what did you say? Hey, hey, why should I be embarrassed?” Biya shoved Woo Jaeryoong in the chest.
Before Woo Jaeryoong got a chance to answer, the girl that Biya was beating up before kicked Biya in the back. Causing Biya to fall to the floor, the other girl started kicking my friend in the stomach while my god (Won Mingyuhl) grabbed the girl’s wrist and pulled her back.
“Come on, Suh Yoolhwa,” He lit up a cigarette, “I might fight dirty but I don’t hit the other person when they’re dealing with someone else. You’re worse than I am.”
The girl stopped, her face flushing red which gave Biya some time to get up. Biya wiped at her face, and at seeing her own blood, seemed to get more pissed off them she was already.
“Han Biya, let’s just go.” Sunhwi said from the door worriedly at seeing Biya cough up some blood.
“Hold on, would you want to go? It’s way too personal now.” Biya wiped her blood away one last time with the back of her sleeve and motioned for the Yoolhwa girl to come forward, “come on. One on one.”
There was no stopping Biya when she was this mad, she shoved Woo Jaeryoong out of the way and grabbed Suh Yoolhwa by the collar.
“Come on, hit me. I never throw the first punch.” Biya laid out the side of her face for Suh Yoolhwa to hit.
Slapping Biya’s hands off the shirt of her collar, Suh Yoolhwa swung her fist, hitting Biya square in the jaw. Once again the fight between the two girls rose to a climax, while we, the other six people, just watched the two tensely until the door dinged open.
“Nuna, what the hell is going on?”
I turned around to see my younger brother with his best friend Ryoon staring at the two girls.
“Eul, I think there’s a fight going on.” Ryoon said tapping my brother. Leave it to him to be the slowest dumbass ever, “I wonder who’s win--” He was cut off as Suh Yoolhwa flew into him, knocking both of them down.
Biya panted hard as she wiped at her mouth once again, “can’t even throw a punch correctly.”
She walked past Sunhwi, me, and Eul and was heading towards the door when loud wailing stopped her. Every single one of our heads turned towards Ryoon who had Suh Yoolhwa on top of him, her red blood dirtying his clothes.
“Ryoon, dude, stop being such a chick.” Eul said, kicking his friend lightly.
“But she’s bleeding, and she’s on top of me!!”
Well, leave it to Ryoon to be the biggest dumbass AND wuss in the world.
Chapter 4
We all watched Ryoon cry for a couple more minutes when all of a sudden he stopped and shoved Suh Yoolhwa off. He sneezed a couple times and laughed, “I feel so much better. Hey! Ryehwan hyung, I haven’t seen you in forever!”
The bipolar kid ran over to the guy named Eun Ryehwan and quickly hugged him, “why didn’t you call? I’ve wanted to hang out with you!”
The guy named Ryehwan grinned (showing a row of pearly whites) and pat Ryoon’s head, “hi Ryoon, hey Eul.”
“Hyung, hyung, lets go play.” Ryoon pulled Ryehwan up, shoving my god out of the way, “sorry Mingyuhl hyung, but you can go play with some other people. Ryehwan hyung is mine today.”
Won Mingyuhl muttered that Ryoon was a stupid sh.it and that Eun Ryehwan was stupid for going along with two ‘stupid juniors.’ Urgh, I can’t say he’s the nicest person alive, but he’s so damn hot. I guess I could forgive him as long as he’s alive and pleasing to my eyes. Ryoon, being the cute person he is(but stupid mind you), linked arms through my brother and Eun Ryehwan’s arm.
“Hyung, hyung, let’s go to eat this Vietnamese noodle stuff. My friend, introduced me a couple days ago to it. It’s so yummy.” Ryoon grinned, all trace of his tears gone from his face, “hyung, hyung, you can pay. You owe me.”
The whole time I was here, I hadn’t seen Eun Ryehwan smile, but I guess Ryoon’s charm gets to all of us. After agreeing to paying for their food, Eun Ryehwan turned around to motion to Woo Jaeryoong to call, all the while smiling.
He was a pretty damn fine, I couldn’t understand what Sunhwi was complaining about, he was really really easy on the eyes. He was tall, taller than both Won Mingyuhl and Woo Jaeryoong by a couple inches, a good foot and a half taller than Sunhwi. He had nicely tanned skin with large eyes. One with a big crease, and the other without. His nose was perfectly shaped, along with his lips which were light pink with the top lip small than the bottom by a half. And if you looked carefully enough, or if the light reflected off, a small diamond would wink at you from underneath his bottom lip.
What could I say about his style? It was luxuriously casual? If that even makes sense to you people. He wore torn jeans with a v-neck vest over a button up shirt that had multiple shades of dark purple. The pink tie tied around his neck was the point in his outfit. The trio left looking quite chummy with each other.
No Eul that bastard! Why didn’t he tell me that he had such hot seniors?!
“Aish, I’m in the mood to go beat some more people. Let’s go.” Biya opened the door and walked out.
Sunhwi and I quickly followed before Biya’s dirty temper got the best of her and she beat up the first person she saw. We were walking in the direction of my house when a white blur stopped in front of us.
“Nuna, nuna! Your number!” Ryoong stopped in front of Biya, his phone ready in hand and his face red from running a short distance of merely thirty feet.
Biya stared, “what? Are you toying with me?” Biya shoved Ryoon in the head, “get lost before I have to beat you away.”
“Ah-ing~ nuna, give me your number! I’ll let you beat me for your number. Is it a deal?” Ryoon grinned and laid out the side of his face for Biya to hit. I quickly forced Biya’s arm down before she could knock out Ryoon’s teeth.
“Ryoon, just go with Eul and your friend.” I said pushing my brother’s friend out of harm’s way, “I’ll give it to you later.”
Ryoong grinned brightly and gave me a quick peck on the cheek before hugging me tightly and running back towards this two friends.
“Haha! Something’s really hot!” I said avoiding Biya’s eyes and fanning myself, “speaking of hot. Isn’t Won Mingyuhl so hot? I need to find a way to get with him.”
“What? Your brother’s better than that jackass.” Sunhwi huffed, “but if you’re that desperate why don’t you just go ask someone just as desperate as you for something else?”
“I have the best grades in school and I didn’t even understand that.” Biya muttered gingerly touching her lip, “I forgot how much a busted lip hurts.”
“Well, didn’t you guys see Woo Jaeryoong?”
“How could we not, with that outfit he was wearing?”
“You guys are so slow. Han Biya stop looking for the next person to beat up and listen to me.”
“I wasn’t actually going to beat a random person.”
Oh~~ yes you were, Han Biya. We both know you too well.
“No Suheul, come on! Since you seem so desperate to get with that Mingyuhl guy, and Woo Jaeryoong seems so desperate for money.” Sunhwi stuck up her two fingers and moved them towards each other, “still don’t get it?”
I shook my head no and Sunhwi looked as if she were abut to slap me, “forget it you dumbass. My brother’s coming back from the army today so I need to go home early. See you guys tomorrow.”
“I think she means get Woo Jaeryoong to get you together.” Biya said once we arrived at my house.
“How?”
“Damn, you are stupid. Give him money to get you guys together. Come on, seriously.”
Hmm…that’s not a bad idea…
Chapter 5
“Jaeryoong!” I yelled running into my classroom the next day, “hey! Hey! Wake up!”
“Shut up, I’m sleeping.”
“You’re not sleeping anymore, so listen to what I have to say!”
“……” He was silent so curiously I bent over to look at his face, only to see he’d fallen asleep once again. Knowing that he wouldn’t be too happy that I was waking him again (because he seemed like the type who treasured a precious couple hours of sleep).
“You know your friend Won Mingyuhl? Hook me up with him!”
One of his large eyes opened and then closed again, “no.”
“Why?”
“You’re not his type.”
“Why? What’s h-”
“And besides, I don’t like you.”
Although I knew that I needed his help, I couldn’t help but think, ‘I don’t know if I like you too much either you bastard.’ Okay, well, if you’re going to be that way. Opening my wallet, I took out a dollar and shook it in front of him.
“I smell money.” Woo Jaeryoong raised his head, “…what the hell, are you bribing me to tell you?”
“Something like that.”
“Well, in that case.” He snatched the dollar from my hand, “he doesn’t like a type of girl. He likes the status of the girl.”
I blinked, “as in money and no money?”
“I’ll tell you for another dollar.”
My jaw dropped open as I watched him shrug, as if saying it was my loss and laid his head back down on his desk to continue on with his nap. Pushing down the feeling of wanting to crack his head open, I pulled out another dollar and placed it in front of him.
“Well, what I mean is that he likes a particular status. For example, taken or not taken, married. Blah, blah.”
“So which does he like exactly?”
“Taken.”
“Like as in already-has-a-boyfriend?! What kind of bastard does that?!”
“So are you giving up on him? Good, I think it’d be easier for you to do that, than find a boyfriend.”
“Of course I’m not givin- hey! What the hell is that supposed to mean?!”
“Exactly what I said.” He yawned and placed his hands behind his head, “besides, he likes to take girls from people around him, and just to tell you. All the people around him like girls like Miyool and your friend Han Biya.”
I paused for a moment. Okay, so let me get this straight, he’s a total bi.tch, and he likes to steal his friends’ girlfriends for himself, and I’m trying to get with him just cause he’s so hot. Meanwhile, this money obsessed freak is making me pay him for the information I want about the hot bastard.
Is this all worth it?
…
…
…
Hell yeah! It totally is!
“So what you’re saying is, that he likes to take his friends’ girlfriends for himself.”
He spread out his hand, expecting another dollar for his answer. Once it was in his hand, “yes.”
I paused for a second…hold a second…
No Suheul likes Won Mingyuhl --> Won Mingyuhl likes taking girls from friends --> Woo Jaeryoong = friend --> Woo Jaeryoong = obsessed with money --> No Suheul has money --> Ding Ding Ding!!!
“Hey, you’re friends with Won Mingyuhl, right?!”
“Friend?” Woo Jaeryoong tucked the money I’d given him into his pocket, “I wouldn’t exactly say friend, but I do fall into the category where he’ll gladly steal my girlfriend if I had one.”
“Hey! I’ll be your girlfriend!”
…
What is this silence? I’d like to know exactly what he’s implying…
“…you think I’m crazy?”
“Shut up and listen. How about, I give you money to be your pretend girlfriend.” I smiled smugly to myself, “I’m too smart.”
Woo Jaeryoong smiled (and I must admit he looked pretty damn cute doing so), “how about ‘no’.”
“Why not?!”
“Well, first off.” He cleared his throat, “you’re ugly, and you’re kind of desperate. Third, Mingyuhl would never want you.”
“But I’ll be paying you remember?”
“I don’t want to help someone and get their hopes up. Even if they’re ugly, and no matter how much money they’re willing to give me, what do you think I am? A money obsessed freak who only thinks about earning money?”
I stared at him, “do you want me to lie or tell you the truth?”
Ignoring me, he raised his hand, five fingers apart, “five times.”
“What?”
“I’ll help you five times, not for free of course.”
“Why five?”
“…well, because I like the number five and getting five chances is enough.”
I thought for a second, pondering whether five seemed to be enough and nodded, “okay, ten dollars is okay for each one right?”
“Ten? Are you joking with me?”
I paused, wait…since he loves money so much…maybe…should I try it…?
“How about, ten FIFTY.”
“Deal.”
Woo Jaeryoong, I swear, you’d sell your soul to the devil for eleven dollars.
