Chapter 1
The first time I saw Jungwon nuna was a couple years back in my third year of middle school.
A kid named Yoon Jaegwang and I were put into the same class that year and at the same time, we both spotted a girl named Kim Miyae, or I spotted a girl named Miyae. Jaegwang was already going out with her. She had the brains, looks, attitude and popularity. Exactly what Jaegwang had, except I‘m not sure about the brains part.
I’d only moved into the area a couple months before the new school year. So I didn’t know what the hell was going on at Saehan MS.
It didn’t matter though, I had had a reputation back at my old school. Or as much of a reputation a kid can have in middle school.
Miyae and Jaegwang were the top of the school when I got there, and when I arrived. Well, I’m pretty good looking. Let’s just say I took some of Jaegwang’s admirers away from him.
…okay not ‘some’…let’s just say around half.
Of course if I was worth getting half the schools attention, then of course my name would have flown into Miyae’s ears a couple times.
After a couple years of knowing her, I’ve found out that what Miyae liked was for people to be jealous of her. Knowing that she had my attention and knowing that she had Jaegwang’s attention made her pick the better of the two. Which was obviously me.
So she and I started going out behind Jaegwang’s back, which was great cause I’d passed him on the popularity scale by maybe fifty-five percent? Yes…and this all happened in my third year of middle school.
It was a couple months before he actually found out. Of course during the months we had an unspoken rivalry between us. Well, one week before winter break, one of Miyae’s friend ratted on Jaegwang that we were going out and he came up to me to confront me about it.
He was pissed like a mother, and let’s just say that’s when our friendship began.
We both beat the crap out of each other, and in the end we both ended up having to go to the hospital. I gave Jaegwang stitches and he broke my arm. The two of us, ended up sharing a hospital room and…
…THAT was the moment I saw his nuna: Yoon Jungwon…
She came in with a bag of food after Jaegwang had called and yelled at her to bring him something. Me, well, my dad was busy, my mom dead, and me being an only child in a new area…had only myself.
I was keeping myself entertained by sketching out a lighthouse from a magazine article that I’d found right next to me, and I was almost done when the door banged open, startling and causing me to run a huge line through my sketch. It was too bad, because it was one of the best I’d ever done if I remember correctly. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m a good artist. I even got into an art school, and I’m on the top of my class even though I miss more than all my classes due to my busy schedules.
Anyways, back to Jungwon nuna…
She barged into the room with at least two bags of food. She, well, wasn’t as pretty as Miyae, I admit, but she had her own charm. Her voice, I remember, wasn’t one of those pretty resonating feminine voices, it was actually a little deeper than most girls.
“Yoon Jaegwang, you’re such a damn baby!”
