Fancy Colors
No other colored gem is as widly recognized as a sapphire, the birthstone for the month of September. Since ancient times Sapphires have been linked to emotions such as sympathy and harmony, friendship and loyalty.
Corundum is the mineral that sapphires originate from.
The hardness of corundum is a 9 on the Moh's scale,
second only to a diamond. The resilience and
durability of a sapphire make it a great stone to
wear, requiring minimum care and cleaning.
What most people don't know is that although the blue
sapphire is most widely known, sapphires actually
come in almost every shade and hue. Sapphires appear
naturally from pink to green, however, most are
enhanced through a gentle heating process revealing
more vibrant colors.
The House of Taylor Collection uses black sapphires in
their black and white collection to create a
sophiticated feel. Simon G makes great use of pink
sapphires ranging from baby pink to rich bubble gum
hues, while Gregg Ruth's heavily used golden and
yellow sapphires create a luxurious look.
The sapphire was worn into battle to protect kings
from their enemies. The sapphire is believed to bring
inner peace and relaxation to its wearer. It is a
very diverse stone that makes an amazing accessory,
and a great sapphire set is a staple to every jewelry
collection.
