Getting into Green
2,000 years before Cleopatra was born the vibrant green of emerald had already captured the eyes of many. Cleopatra made emeralds an elegant statement of wealth by claiming ownership of all emerald mines. In ancient times they were worshiped as the color of love, and worn by the goddess Venus.
The incredible rarity of an internally clean emerald allows for some tolerance regarding inclusions. Emeralds are a member of the beryl family, which which also includes such stones as aquamarine and morganite.
The lush green of emerald is often thought of as the color of spring, rebirth and life. It is also the birthstone for May. Maybe its time to add one to your collection.
