Summer is in full blast and green is so in!
Any summer outfit can be livened up with a little of August's birthstone--Peridot.
The peridot is an ancient stone recorded as far back as the second millennium BC. In the mid 1990's its popularity skyrocketed again with new discoveries of a much more vibrant and clear stone. It can be found in volcanic regions all over the world and sometimes it is even discovered in meteorite fragments.
Peridot is one of the few gemstones that only comes in one color but many variations of green, from yellow-green and olive to brownish green. Peridot is a 6.5 to 7 on the Moh's hardness scale, however, it is great for every day wear and requires no special care.
Peridot was often used in ancient jewelry, frequently mistaken for emeralds because of its deep color. Many of Cleopatra's "emeralds" were actually peridots. In Rome the stone was most coveted for its wonderful internal fire. The Romans named peridot the "Evening Emerald" and it was used throughout Europe in churches and on treasures.
Peridot is believed to help with sleep, health, and to soothe the nerves while calming anger. It is also a stone that is thought to bring its wearer love, good luck, and success. These attributes are said to be especially effective when mounted in gold.
