| I sat on a plane. I was going to go see my daughter, Sunny, whom I haven�t seen in 3 months. A few months ago I found out I had a daughter. Her grandparents sought me out so I would take care of her. When I came into town they disappeared & I came up with a compromise that would allow my daughter to stay by her mother�s side & then come to stay with me when her mother dies. She�s dying of cancer. The landing was being delayed because of fog. When we finally landed I looked around for anyone. Todd, Sunny�s uncle, was there waiting for me. �Hi Todd.� �Hello Howie,� �Where�s Sunny?� �With Sarah, she�s not doing very well & Sunny�s afraid she�ll leave & they won�t get a chance to say goodbye.� Sarah�s my ex-girlfriend & Sunny�s mother. I am very proud of her because she has taken care of our daughter & been sick at the same time. I still love her, but it�s not that easy to tell her knowing she�ll be leaving soon. She was given 3 months to live & it is almost 4 months later. We traveled until we reach a large house in the middle of a decent neighborhood. Todd & I went inside & up the stairs to the first bedroom on the right. Sarah was there & lying down next to her asleep was Sunny. I smiled. Sarah noticed me. �Hi,� she said. �Hi, How are you?� �Good though I could be better.� �How is she?� I said referring to Sunny. �She�s fine I guess. I think she�s a little scared of losing me.� �I kind of know how she feels. I know I missed you when you were taken away.� She smiled weakly. �I missed you too.� |
