Why Am I Doing This?
"Motivation Statement" (part of the application process)
The Peace Corp is something I have thought abotu doing since my grandma did it about 10years ago and traveled to The Gambia.  Volunteering runs in my family and my mom brought me up well by encouraging me to get involved in the community.  Having worked with a variety of organizations, you get to see and meet people from every different walk of life and I love that.  I am not wanting to join the Peace Corp hoping to save the world, however if I can do something worthwhile and meaningful to somoene somewhere else, then I have done my job.   When I lived in the Dominican Republic and worked so hard to build nine very grateful families each a latrine, I got to experience the wonderful feeling of "knowing you have done well."  After  living in the Dominican Republic I saw what living with a different culture is like and would love to have the chance to do it again and experience another culture for 27months.  I also had the opportunity to speak Spanish while down there and would like a chance to work on that as well. Last but not least, I want to do something different. I am done withc ollege and have had a job since I was 14 and worked very hard in school and work all these years. Now that this phase in my life is coming to an end, I would like to take the time to try something different.
