The Dreams
BOATS ARE MADE OF DREAMS
The creations of the "DUOLOGY" Hull Form, an unconventional boat hull design is the story of one man. After many years of research and experimentation amid nocturnal dreams, Poh Michael H K was able to hit a design in the hull of vessels that could give extraordinary features to marine propulsion.
The vessels are able to trap all possible hydrodynamic forces at play in the open seas in all weathers, thereby creating a constant lift upon entry and the entire run of the vessel is cushioned, that is, from bow to stern. The constant lift created by the inverted "V" section ultimately renders the vessel into a semi-airborne state or condition. But this must not be perceived that the "DUOLOGY" hull form concept is the same as the hydrofoils’.
Resistance and drag are drastically minimized as the wetted surface area is reduced while the vessel is in the semi-airborne state or condition. Vessel designed and built according to the "DUOLOGY" hull form concept can achieve and gain decided advantages. Higher speeds are possible thereby saving time on journeys. There may be lower fuel consumption although the carrying capacities are expanded, because of a wider beam (transverse deck space) possible.
Poh Michael H K recall the days when Arthur "Chips" Morse, his mentor, an engineer graduated from M.I.T. who encouraged him to continue the research further into the hull design. Haunted by "Chips" advice which kept echoing – "Michael, create a lift in the bow section" – he plodded on night after night on the drawing board. Being a devout Catholic, he prayed for inspiration and God’s help. Then some years later, through the phenomenon of a series of dreams, the Almighty showed it to him.
The first dream was of an immense boat in extreme high water, a vision of a silvery-gray, massive, wide deck boat propelled by itself towards me. Subsequently, another dream revealed several boats linked together by white manila ropes trailed by a shepherd holding a stick. The final and third was the apposite that sent him scurrying to the drawing board – it was the scantling of a "DUOLOGY" moving in a vertical manner, slightly tilted backward, so as to expose its underside.
Coupled with a talent for draughtsmanship and a flair for entrepreneurship , he quickly formed a company and called it "MARITIME VENTURES" geared to revive the ailing maritime and shipping industry with a high tech potential for the 21st century.
The "DUOLOGY" boat hull form invention is a shot in the arm for an archaic industry, which is fast being superseded by innovations in the air and land transportation.
