The very first dessert posting... was to MerwolfVoices... It was to celebrate Barbapalooza... and it was day #7. May 15, 2000 Since this is day #7. And seven makes me think of Sunday... Sundae decorations. The Bear visited a restaurant that served a Sundae in a most unique of .. designs. The base of the sundae (to ensure sturdiness) requires a very large ... square of delectable dark chocolate Brownie... freshly baked. A layer of whipped cream is slathered on... and we carefully place another very hot brownie square on top. A light coating of powdered sugar is dusted over the brownie cream sandwich. A large perfectly rounded scoop of vanilla ice cream is centered on the sandwich. Fishing into the jar of cherries, one can rescue a very red, very sweet Maraschino cherry. Using a variety of tools, it is established that the middle of the brownie and the scoop of ice cream are in line... and carefully, the cherry is placed on top -- with the stem upright. Using a ladle, rich dark chocolate sauce is drizzled over the white ice cream... in what first appears as a random direction, but turns out to be circling around the cherry. Consumption of this edible monument calls for patience, some finess and ummm... a large clean area. One begins at the top, tongue swirling slowly, following the path of the chocolate. As the chocolate melts away, we proceed towards the cherry. Its stem is such that we can bite the very top and remove the cherry from the ice cream throne. Succulent cherries provide for very moldable stems, and to demonstrate the... agility of the tongue, carefully, the stem is tied into a knot. Slowly, we nibble the ice cream, small bites surrounding the indentation left by the fruit. The ice cream is melting slowly ... and there is certainly no rush to finish this dessert. At some point in time, the scoop of ice cream has softened to become very pliable... and we push the mound of ice cream alllll over the brownie sandwich. Slathering the layers in white sweetness. Depending on the style one consumes layered foods, one might start with just the top layer, slowly nibbling away. Sometimes scooping away at the cream layer that lies below. Or one could carefully take larger chunks of the sandwich: a bit of ice cream on top of the brownie... slowly savouring every bite.
