As the hues darken from bright red
to dusk purple,
everything tightens
along a single point,
until it is ripe
beyond bursting.

Continued sunshine
sees a burst of freckles
across the top;
dimpling smooth flesh
once more.

Each bite
is a miniature explosion
of sensation
and taste
that melts across
yearning tastebuds
like chocolate
on hot flesh.

The plumpness recedes
and gives way to soft flesh,
painted in hues
of red and orange;
like the sunset of a summers' day.
