In this world
unfortunately,
there is never the assurance 
that the footprints are ever beside you
or even behind you
or if lucky, relatively in front of you.

The laneways are narrow,
the alleys hidden
there is no reason for someone
to venture into the darkest shadows
why smudge the clothing
when the walls are covered with soot?

As it is,
it is easier to not mire someone else
into the messes that would dot the path.
