One Day at a Time - February 7, 2001

I remind myself daily
that one day at a time
I must survive one day at a time.

I won't look towards tomorrow
because I must survive today.

That's what is keeping me here -
one day at a time.

I'm beyond the low hum
I hear constantly,
I remind myself -
one day at a time.

I'll never see tomorrow
if everything ends today

So that is my goal tonight
to just live one day at a time.

The throbbing pain 
will go away
as I take it one day
at a time.

A dreamless death,
a deathless dream -
maybe I'll sleep today,
as I try to live
one day at a time.

Slow detachment,
and the ice floes 
leave once more.
