Snowscape - November 17, 2000

The chilly night air
gently tosses the snowflakes
hither and fro
as they land against
panes of glass -
creating
a brief snowscape
that quickly disappears
even as the warmth within
melts away.

Darkness descends rapidly
as the cool embrace
of the night
sends light 
into hiding 
once more.

The snow falls faster
as the streetlamps
cast a pale glow
and I watch
the brisk travels
of millions of flakes
cross the golden
river
of light.
