Melting - July 6, 2000

What begins as the faintest drop
of white cream
on dark chocolate
rapidly expands
as the mound 
of white grows
upwards.

Faintly decorated
by red cherries,
it is a vivid
contrast to the
pale orange of
the peach halves
that lay under.

As the cherry slips
down the white hill,
the pool spreads
outwards -
liquid white
on chocolate brown.

A path is carved
across light 
and dark
as cuts are made
through the silent dessert.

All I can hear
are the sounds of 
subtle savouring
of the cool treat.
