San Carlos & Alamos Trips - 2008
We went down to San Carlos, Sonora, Mexico and stayed a week at a time share condo in January. From San Carlos we drove further south to Alamos and spent three nights there during the international music festival.
Tetakawi beach party
After arriving in San Carlos and meeting up with some friends, we went to a beach bonfire party one evening. Tetakawi Hill, the symbol of San Carlos, was backlit by the setting sun. We met up with a group of folks who come down each year from Canada and spend the winter in San Carlos.

We walked the beach near our condo several times. Tetakawi is in the background, and dominates the view from many places around San Carlos.
We took a drive on a somewhat primitive road that heads back in the tullies from San Carlos. When we got as far as we dared go with the passenger car, we had a little picnic lunch.
stilt dancers
Oaxaca band
One night we went to the opera house for a concert. Before the show a group of dancers on stilts danced around on the cobblestone street in front of the old Cathedral to the rythmn of drummers.
We left San Carlos and drove several hours further south to the Colonial town Alamos. We went there to see the international music festival. This is a group from Oaxaca that was performing at one of the venues in town.

We went to see a concert at the old opera house. This evening was four women playing baroque music on harpsichord and baroque guitars.
Alamos dates back to the 1680's, when it was a rich silver mining center. The cobble stone streets, arched porticos and white washed buildings make you feel like you have stepped back in time.
