2007 Northeast and Maritime Provences
In the summer of 2007, we spent about 3 1/2 months on the road. We first went across New Mexico, the corner of Texas, the Oklahoma Panhandle, across Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, and then into Michigan where we spent several weeks visiting friends and family before moving on.
White Sands Amish
We passed through White Sands National Monument, then visited some friends in Alamogordo. After crossing New Mexico, Kansas, etc., we stopped in Indiana at Shipshewana, an Amish area. From there we went up to Flint  Michigan area and visited family for 2 weeks.
Sunburst Inn
Mackinaw Bridge
We visited Penny's cousin in the Grand Rapids area, then we went over to Ludington and spent a few days with my brother Dave and his wife Linda. They have converted an older home in Ludington into a B&B, the Sunburst Inn.
We left Ludington and headed for the Straits of Mackinaw. We spent a night at the state park, almost under the entrance to the Mackinaw Bridge.
Soo Locks Tugboats
We then headed up to the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie. There was a waterfront festival going on so we spent a few days. There were Tugboat races going on. The locks were open to foot traffic for the one time of the year, and the Coast Guard Station was having tours.
Locks
Freighter
A Freighter passing our campground.
It was interesting to watch the ships manauever into the locks, then they would lower down and finally pass on down river.
