We poked around Santa Rosa, then followed the old Route 66 which is parralled by I-40. We stopped in Tucumcari and then went up to Capulin Volcano national monument. |

Tucumcari is supposed to still have the most old neon signs for motels and such along old Route 66. We stopped at the totally tacky, old souvenir shop called Teepee Curios. |

Along the original Route 66 you come across decaying gas stations and old motels. |

We drove up onto Capulin Volcano national monument, west of Raton. We parked and hiked around the crater rim and down into the crater. You can see our motorhome parked along the rim in this photo. |

We spent a night in Raton N.M., and it has a historic downtown with lot's of old brick and stone buildings. We went in and looked at the old theater which has been renovated and is used for all sorts of activities. |

Once you hike around opposite the parking lot, to the highest part of the crater rim, you can see 5 states. You can still the the parking lot in the lower half of the photo. |

|
The rim had pine, pinion, and colorful lichens on the volcanic rocks. |
