We drove through the scenic Salt River Canyon, and then up to Show Low where we spent a couple of nights at Fool Hollow state park. |

Fool Hollow state park is up in the White Mountains and is a cool place to get away from the heat in the summer. |

From Show Low we headed east into New Mexico. We stopped at the Very Large Array (VLA) radio telescope west of Soccorro. It was used as the backdrop for the movie 'First Contact'. |

Near Soccorro we spent a day at the Bosque Del Apache wildlife refuge. In the winter there are 10's of thousands of cranes and waterfowl. |

|
We headed east around the north end of White Sands Missile Range, and spent a couple of nights at Valley of Fires National Monument. It was a pretty campground with views of the volcanic rock formations below. |

We went to the Salinas Missions National Monument, three 1700's missions built by the Jesuits at pueblos. I thought this sign along the path was interesting. |
