A MESSAGE TO MY STUDENTS

Welcome to Algebra. First-year algebra is the beginning of advanced mathematics. Your standardize test scores, previous math grades, and responsible attitude toward school and learning were all taken into consideration when placing you in one of  two levels of algebra.  Now, scroll down and read on for the really important information.

You must also understand the degree of commitment this course will require.

Almost without exception, nightly homework will be assigned. Algebra concepts are sequential. Since each daily lesson builds upon concepts presented in the previous day's lesson, faithful attention to homework is imperative. Successful completion of homework assignments leads to successful test scores. Sporadic completion of homework will almost certainly lead to less understanding and lower grades.

It is essential that you understand the dangers of falling behind. Most likely this is the first course you have ever taken where "catching up" is extremely difficult. Extra credit will not be given to offset incomplete homework assignments or low test grades. You will receive the grade you earn.

As you can see, responsibility will play a large part in your success.

In conclusion, let me wish you the best as you begin your very first high school course. May your hard work cause you to progress toward a better understanding of mathematics.

Sincerely,

Mr. DeTommaso
