About

Documentation of the Development Process Explain to your audience the intent and purpose behind this website. What steps did you take in creating the website that ensured you met your objectives?

This website serves a dual purpose, to introduce and market the restaurant “Com Vida.” Its’ design is simplistic and employees a Hierarchical Structural Theme. It consists of a home page and 5 subpages. Each subpage is independent and only links to the home page (Hub). This is the most popular structural theme currently because it allows for expansion. My uncle had specifically requested a website that meets these specific objectives.

Defense of the Final Product Why did you make the specific design choices that you did? For each of your website’s pages, explain your rationale for the overall design, as well as the individual components (colors, typography, etc.). Support your choices with evidence of your consideration of the end user. What did you do to make your website engaging, professional, and easy to use?

The inspiration for the more prominent design features (ie. font and colors) derived from the restaurant logo and the most striking color in the featured sub picture. The background color (yellow-green) is the same color as the logo background and because the logo is positioned on the top of the home page and blends with the background, it gives the illusion that the logo is part of the home page. The navigation menu is horizontal and links all subpages. It is a responsive design, which means that when the website is opened via a tablet or phone, the navigation collapses into a vertical menu. The home picture is of the most popular sub and to the right of it is the company mission statement. This does two things, first it immediately informs the visitor what kind of business this is and what a finished product looks like. This eliminates confusion, which visitors appreciate very much. The more standard information in the website uses a black font color, such as the navigation menu, menu items list, and coupon information. The font used throughout the website is "Avant Garde", Avantgarde, "Century Gothic", CenturyGothic, AppleGothic, sans-serif;,” with exception to the navigation menu, which uses “Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; so that it stands out a bit more.” The main font has a sophisticated feel to it, which resembles the logo font and is also web safe. The sophisticated aspect is extremely important, since the restaurant product “Healthy Subs” is a step above an average Sub, which sometimes include genetically modified ingredients. I utilized “table” elements to display the menu, which allowed each product to have a title, picture and unordered list of ingredients. The contact tab includes a form at the center of the page, which simply gives the visitors a method to contact the restaurant and directly below it is the company location address in case the visitor would like to personally visit the restaurant. Finally, the coupon tab lists the stores coupons for the visitor to print and present at the restaurant.

C. Opportunities for Improvement and Growth Finally, explain what else you might like to do with this website in the future. What could you have done differently if you had more time or resources? What sorts of content, capabilities, pages, etc. might you want to include in future updates?

If I had more time and resources, I would add more capabilities and pages to the website. For instance, I would make the navigation menu present on each page, so that the visitor could easily jump to any page or simply return to the home page. I would change the coupon page to allow visitors to click on each coupon, to make it easier for them to print the coupons individually. Also, I would include an ordering system, that would allow the visitor to place an order directly on the site.
