THE FLEET WARRANT OFFICER PROGRAM
The "Fleet" adopted the Warrant Officer ranks early in 2002. The additional rank structure allowed the "Fleet" a flexability that was found to be lacking. With five new ranks the fledgling birdmen that enlist can expect a career with regular advancement in rank, as well as the opprotunity to grow with the Air Wing. As a pilot advances in rank his responsibility grows and with each step up the ladder of command comes new assignments and challenges. Yet every pilot starts out in the same place and by their own merit advance.
When a pilot joins Naval Service he or she given a Warrant signed by the Secretary Of the Navy and given the rank of Warrant Officer First Class. The Warrant Officer 1st is expected to begin to conform to life in the Fleet. He or she begins to draw supplies from "Boot Camp" and they enter a two week program to learn basic skills.
When the pilot is released from Flight School they typicaly are granted a Warrant from the President of the United States and promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Second Class. The Chief Warrant Officer now draws his or her authority from the same place as an Ensign or 1st Lieutant and in lieu of Field grade officers exercise command of Warrant Officers. A Chief Warrant Officer 2nd continues to adjust to Naval life by learning additional skills and continuing to aquire scenery as well as aircraft specific to the Fleet. At this point the Chief Warrant Officer Second Class is allowed to make the decision as to which branch of Naval Service they would like to join. The Marine Corps or the Navy, this can be a tough choice to make as the pilot has undoubtably made friends in both each service branch.

FOR A MARINE CORPS RECRUITMENT SPEECH
When a pilot is promoted to Chief Warrant Officer Third Class they embark on the career with the service branch they have chosen. The pilot begins to compile the service specific downloads, and gets posted to a squadron. The pilot also begins to notice a change, loyalty to Carrier Air Wing 15 is the broad picture but a focus is apparant to the service branch the pilot joined. Its almost like you just got a last name....as a WO1 or CW2 if someone ask what squad you flew with the answer was CAW15 after you become a CW3
the answer is " Carrier Air Wing 15 - Marine Squadron " or " Carrier Air Wing 15 - Navy Squadron ". The Group is like a hometown, your service branch is like a neighborhood, and your squadron is like home.
The next Warrant most pilots in the Fleet ever hold is Chief Warrant Officer Fourth Class. This rank is the grooming period for the pilots transition into the Comissioned Officer Corp. A good CW4 is flying a lot of training and racking up stick time so that when the time comes for the pilot to step up to the plate and join the Officer ranks they are up to the job. A CW4 has to stop eating with thier fingers, cant pick thier nose in public, cant eat free in the enlisted mess, and must never fart. These things are prohibited for 2LT's and Ensigns because they are Officers and Gentelmen..or Ladies as the case may be.
Yet for a very select few comes the best rank the fleet has to offer. Chief Warrant Officer Fifth Class sometimes called the Command Chief Warrant Officer. These chosen few are the best of the best, the finest of the fine, wolves among sheep these pilots are chosen for this post due to unrelenting skill and a high ability to lead. So coveted is this position that there is never more than one at any given time and it is awarded acordingly. The CW5 is incharge of the development of all Warrant Officers, they help the pilot, answer questions, ensure compliance with uniform regulations, act as the buffer between Command grade officers and the Warrants. Chief Warrant Officer Fifth Class have earned the respect of the members and most generaly will never be countermanded by anyone of less rank than a Navy Admrial or a Marine General, yet the CW5 is the most approachable rank in the fleet they always have time to answer questions and offer help. The CW5s take the job given to them very seriously yet its a job that is easily stated...to make the Warrants "Shipshape"
