| The 327 block needed to be throughly cleaned prior to going to the machine shop. Some machine shops do this for you but I like to inspect every nook and cranny myself before investing money in machine work. John Price at the NAPA auto in Northville, Michigan does an excellent job cleaning blocks and heads. I can drop off a greasy, yucky block, and the next day or so, I get a sparkling clean, magnafluxed block back. Cost is $50 and well worth it. The equipment he has, makes it a simple task. He charges extra to remove all the plugs and bearings. It's a nasty job, so I do it for him. Here's how to make it less frustrating. |

| Tap one side of the core plug with a punch and pul out with a pair of locking pliers. If it falls in you need to fish it back with a magnetic probe. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Galley pipe plugs can be a bear! This is the hot tip, no pun intended. Heat around the plug with a torch. Don't get crazy, just gently heat it up to barely red. Douse the plug with paraffin wax (a candle will do). While still hot remove the plug. If it gets hard to turn then STOP and repeat the process. Do Not force the plug or you will round it off. Turn the plug out with the correct socket. You may luck out with a hex or Allen plug. These are internal square drive plugs. Snap-on has sockets that fit these. |

| Most days you get the bear.Some days the bear gets you. I had one that wouldn't come out and I had to drill and remove with an "EZ-OUT". Use the correct left handed drill bit and a variable speed reversable drill. Mine's a 1/2" Makita and it's awesome. Actually it's a replacement for the one that was stolen... |

| Once you get the rear oil galley pipe plugs out you need a long 1/4" rod to tap out the forward press in plugs. Mine has a seat belt "handle" welded on. Used to be a circle track race car window net rod. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Cam bearing removal requires a special tool. It has special adjustable mandrels with soft rubber bushing to fit the bearing ID. Same tool installs cam bearings. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
