Mrs. Curtis’ science students are proud to present their science night web pages.  Science Night is a night to celebrate the scientific exploration of all Hall Memorial School 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  The 6th grade’s focus is primarily on researching, designing and completing a scientific experiment.  This year the 6th grade will be researching and experimenting on consumer products this could include anything from dish soap to pizza to sporting goods.  Students will perform an experiment following scientific method (click HERE for an in depth explanation of each step):

  1. Research this product
  2. Form a hypothesis based on research

Teaching Pedagogy

Mrs. Curtis is a strong supporter of the “Hands on, Minds on” approach to teaching science.  Simply put, students learn best when they are personally involved working with the concepts presented in class.  The daily lessons include activities that require child involvement to enhance the learning process, Science night is an extension of this belief.  The best way to learn about the Scientific Method is to use it, learning how to apply these components to one’s everyday life.  It is more important for the children to understand how to properly solve a problem constructed form their prior/current knowledge.  Teaching children how to organize their thinking will help prepare them for their future endeavors.
