Entry for February 22, 2007 Live from my Treo during Vista/Office 2007 class

Good morning! I am writing this entry from inside New Horizons where I am on break. They have covered Vista, Office is next! One cool feature of Vista is that multiple people can be logged onto a computer and users can switch back and forth! More after class.

After the break we learned a bit about Office 2007.  The biggest change is how they have the menu bar and toolbars.  The Menu bar is not there, per se.  Much of the information in the Menu bar is now found in the Orb (any remember the Woody Allen movie "Sleepers").  There is what looks like a menu bar -- to me -- but it is now called a "ribbon." When you click on the ribbon words, the toolbars change to be choices that relate to that topic.

Microsoft did not include that many new features but unearthed many features that were not used because no one could find them.

One new feature that may be useful to many of us is that from any Office program, you can now create a .pdf file.  This means you do not need to purchase the Adobe Acrobat program roughly $200 to $500.  Of course, if you want to do anything sophisticated when creating or editing pdf files, you still need it but for most of us, what Office will be able to do will be enough.
