Robust as it is, Microsoft Windows XP is still just an operating system-a stable platform for the applications and utilities that make a PC worth using. New to the market are some applications that enhance the Windows XP experience. We decided to take a look at some to see if they're worth adding. Our first utility builds on one advantage that Microsoft has been touting: that the OS makes working with photos much easier. Windows XP's Photo Wizard lets even newbies connect a scanner or digital camera to a PC and automatically acquire images. When you want to share these images, simply right-click them to a zipped folder and e-mail them.
Time was, digital cameras were expensive and hard to use not
the most attractive combination. But thanks to advances in technology over
the past few years, buying a digital camera no longer has to break your bank
or your brain.
To give you an idea of just how affordable and effective today's cameras are,
we took a look at 10 models, ranging in price from $60 to $300. You won't
find anything to rival full-featured prosumer cameras here.
