DECADE SIX: The Seventies
__________________________

Facts & Figures...

Port Credit enters the modern age with the addition of new programs in computer science, film, theatre arts, journalism and marketing. The library becomes the new Resource Centre and students join the jet set on school trips to Japan, Italy, Greece and Spain. Closer to home, the landscape itself changes as a developer's bulldozer levels Craigie Orchards to make way for a townhouse complex.

Meanwhile, a freer choice of subjects, individual timetables and more independent study periods leave students with more free time for extra-curriculars. New sports include the Equestrian, Bowling and Flying Clubs. The academically inclined participate in Reach for the Top, Model U.N. Parliament or Science, Investment and Military History Clubs. For the back-to-nature crowd there's always the Outdoor Club sponsored by Mr. Christopher George.
Over the decade, classes change, clubs change, even music changes from rock to disco. But the biggest change of all? Many students say it's the new Coke machine in the cafeteria!

A MESSAGE FROM HARRY FLUDD

As you know, I was the spirit of Port Credit High that made it such a memorable experience for so many in your years. From athletics to music, from drama to euchure in the caf, you entered Port Credit as a student, but left as a distinct individual, armed with knowledge and a rich life experience. Leaders were found in every corridor at PCSS, starting with Mr. Brown in the early days, Pete on the football field, Bridgit in drama, Tony in History, Fred in the choir room etc. Our classmates and teammates were special in their own right: Ed, Murray, Jeff, Barney, Scotty, Cathy, Judy, "Stretch", Lee, Randi, Steve, Gord, Veg, Pants, Society, Deni, Jim, "Cyrano", Lorraine, Ian, Wendy, Bill, Bob, Derek, Martin, Mike, Dave, Fritz and so many more... You all took a little of me with you when you left. Always cherish those days.

Harry
