Josh Helton will get a chance to prove his critics wrong in 2 weeks when he plays in his third Cork Bowl. Veteran Josh Williamson will be unable to suit up for the Bandicoots due to a conflict with his athletic training internship and will miss his first Cork Bowl since he began playing in 1995. With Williamson out, the league acted quickly in picking up Helton's contract, and Kevin Ryan was traded to the Bandicoots so Helton could join the Ermine roster. "Of course you never want anybody to miss Cork Bowl," commented Commissioner Cork. "It's rough because we all know how much Josh W. means to the game, but we've got to move on and play the game." Helton's career began well in Cork Bowl 9 when he finished with 6 catches and 3 touchdowns as a rookie. The future looked bright for the young player, but he was a major disappointment in Cork Bowl 10 when he was only able to make one reception in a loss. "Last year was definitely not my best game," remarked Helton. "But I feel I have matured tremendously and being on a team with Chris and Patrick can only help me to become a better player." Helton will need to play well in order for the Ermine to win. With the Cork brothers as the main targets, Tomlinson and Helton will have to make some plays in order to keep the Bandicoots from focusing all of the defensive packages on Chris and Patrick. |
