Hurt has access to a recreational wonderland. Smith Mountain Lake State Park (40 miles), Leesville Lake (10 miles), Wintergreen Ski Resort (60 miles) and the famed Blue Ridge Parkway (40 miles) are within an hour's drive of the town.
Staunton Riverfront Park is located adjacent to town limits and is equipped with baseball/softball, volleyball and soccer fields, trails for walking, jogging and biking, boat launch for water access, picnic sites and shelters. To the south of Hurt is the 56 acre Pittsylvania County Wayside Park providing baseball/softball and volleyball fields as well as picnic facilities.
The Altavista Area YMCA is located within five miles of Hurt providing child care, swimming, racquetball, weight room, and many other sports and activities for local citizens.
