Education
There are both public and private schools in Hurt and the surrounding area. Two community colleges serve Hurt residents. Central Virginia Community College (24 miles) and Danville Community College (48 miles) offer one and two year programs in vocational, technical and liberal arts fields. Satellite classrooms and computer labs are located within a few miles of Hurt.
Three four-year colleges are in the Lynchburg area. Lynchburg College (private, 28 miles), Randolph-Macon Women's College (private, 31 miles) and Liberty University (private, 25 miles) offer a number of degree programs.
The town of Hurt is fortunate to have a community based public elementary school. The John L. Hurt, Jr. Elementary School is a part of the Pittsylvania County School system and encompasses grades K-5. A private secondary school, Faith Christian Academy, is also located in the Hurt area.
