pensacola cemeteries
by john williams

The idea of photographing the "old" cemeteries of Pensacola came to me during my first photo assignment as a student with the New York Institute of Photography.  I had to photograph a landscape showing something near and far in the same shot.  What better than the seemingly endless rows of white markers at Barrancas National Cemetery? After arriving there, one Sunday afternoon, I was completely taken back by the beauty and somberness of the landscape and atmosphere created by, and for, these American Hero's.

I've attempted to capture as much with other "old" cemeteries around the city of Pensacola. I hope these pictures help you, from time to time, to remember those places many of us forget. Our Cemeteries of old.
