Peace Corps volunteers collaborate with small enterprises, entrepreneurs, local cooperatives, microfinance institutions and business training institutes to teach business management
skills, make credit more available, and help entrepreneurs make their
businesses more profitable. Through consulting with enterpreneurs and
cooperatives, volunteers can help businesses to expand, become more
viable and tailor their marketing to local needs. Volunteers can also
help new microfinance institutions to become recognized by the Central
Bank and help existing institutions to improve savings programs, reimbursement
rates, and accounting methods.
Through increasing access
to credit and management training, Peace Corps can help businesses in
the informal sector to grow and increase their profit margins thereby
reducing poverty in Mauritania.
